I've read dozens of posts by people asking their chances. In reality, I know you can't truly predict, however curiosity has gotten the best of me and I would appreciate some feedback. My GPA could have been better, 3.0 cum, 2.85 science. However, when I apply I will have 5 years of research experience from solid institutions, 2 publications, good recs, MD shadowing, and I plan on DO shadowing as well. My MCAT needs a boost (family death right before exam didn't help), and I'm repeating a couple of classes. What are my chances? Any at all?

sure you do! i think a couple science A's would help. don't make apologies for past mistakes. i had lots. i wasn't groomed for med school out of HS. if i could do things over i certainly would! starting with the PSAT in 10th grade that i never took!!

it sounds like you have good non-GPA credentials. 🙂

Thanks! No clinical volunteering, however my boss, who is a premed advisor, says it's overrated.

focus on what the adcoms will look for. i think you have the ECS part down. work on mcat and gpa. try to get science gpa up to 3.2 if possible. at least over 3.0. retake mcat and get 28+ .... do all of those and you would be a shoe in.

I think you have a decent chance. I am in sort of the same vote. I am a non trad, i am 27. I have three years clinical experience and publications along with a bizillion classes that I have taken in my years and did not do that great in. Mostly because I slacked off when I took summer classes after my bachelor's degree, therefore, now, considered post bacc. My overall science gpa (for AMCAS) is a crazy 3.10, non science 3.3, while my AACOMAS science is a 3.45 and non science a 3.20. So, what is the moral of the story here, for us non trads who have been out of school for a while and got a D in a math course 10 years ago, it sucks that this should bring our gpa down now that we are absolutely focused with wanting to be doctors. What would I do, I would apply anyway. I am only applying to 7 MD schools and 15 DO schools. I realize for many reasons that DO is my calling, but at the same time, I dont want to fully limit myself when it comes to MD either. Most likely, I will probably get rejected from all MD schools because my overall science is a 3.1 but my trends are good. Keep working hard and apply everywhere if you can. If you like the DO mentality, I would look into that.
Good luck.

i agree with this...however, going into the MCAT thinking you need a 28+ kind of sucks. i think you could do a little worse and be okay. i am thinking a combo of 8's and 9's but no 7's or below would be pretty good. so i think a 25+ could even get you in...it's just pushing it a little more...
