Hi everyone,

I graduated two years back and will be applying this year. I came across this on Duke's admission website: http://dukemed.duke.edu/modules/ooa_applicant/index.php?id=21.

Sociology and psych will now become requirements for them. I am a bio major with a pretty well-rounded academic background (except for sociology), so I will not be able to apply to Duke. I am not worried about the MCAT since I took it in 2014.

Can anyone think of any other schools that are switching course requirements like Duke? I would prefer not to go back to school to take another class.

Pretty sure you can apply and if you get in you have to take it before you matriculate?

Honestly, for all those reading who have years left in college, I don't know why you wouldn't want to take intro psych and socio. It (usually) fulfills some type of GE requirement for your degree, it will be tested on the new MCAT, and they are such easy/blow off 3 credit hour classes that can easily help bump your GPA. I'd recommend! Thats my n=1

True, I have a friend who did that with an english course and stats requirement. But given the financial cost of medical education and applying, I would prefer not to spend any more money on school than I need to.

After googling about 30 something schools, it seems that most schools will continue to "recommend" these courses. If anyone can think of any exceptions, please feel free to post them!

IU required that and biochemistry beginning this year. I am sure as more people switch over to the new MCAT they will simply become required. Already noticed a few more schools allowing for one semester O-Chem and one semester of Biochem.
If you had social sciences in college you may be able to use them as replacements. Contact the school.
