I just recieved a really well written LOR from one of my attendings who actually knew me for more than a few weeks and made that clear in his letter. I feel this letter better reflects me than one of the one's I submitted to ERAS. what i am wondering is if it is worth it to bring a copy of this letter to the interviews with me and ask that it be added to my file. I know it has been stated on this forum that in general adding extra LOR's to your file is generally frowned upon, but I feel this letter would actually add something to my file rather than just being another generic letter. any suggestions?

I think the letter would carry more weight if you had it sent under separate cover to the programs you are interviewing at, or wish to interview at, rather than handing it to them. Coming under separate cover might imply that you hadn't read the letter - whether that was true or not - and gives it a bit more weight, IMHO.

It's 10/21 and I'm still waiting on my 3rd letter. Getting a little bit nervous about deadlines. Everything else is in--even my dean's letter has been uploaded a few weeks early. I've gotten a handful of interview invites, but I'm still worried that time's running out. Is it still acceptable to have the final letter pending, or is it ridiculous at this point?

If a program is interested in you, most of them won't deny you an interview for lacking 1 letter. They will most likely remind you that your application isn't complete - after all, people get interviews with incomplete apps all the time.

The real question should be: what have you done to try and speed up your letter writer? Have you reminded him/her that the deadline is fast approaching? Asked if there was anything you could do to assist him/her in the writing of the letter? Take some action!!
