Anybody know if any new DO EM programs are forming/in the works? I know not many people give credance to them but for those of us that are considering DO programs it's just another option. I know that a lot of new schools are developing, so I was wondering if new programs might sprout up as well.

Why would people not give credance to DO programs, some of these programs are stellar in the kind of training they offer. Also, other DO programs have established reserved spots in allopathic institutions.. So I guess people either do not know enough about these programs or are simply prejudiced for lack of a better term

Being a DO I will tell you why I would only consider very few DO programs. They are mainly at community hospitals with low volumes, little trauma and minus many of tertiary care patients that you want to see in training (transplants, hiv, weird peds stuff). I think DO residencies in things like FP and general surgery are fine but I think that EM is a totally different beast. You need volume and acuity to make a good program and those are lacking at many DO residencies.

This one should be a good one. It is suppose to be run by the Morning Star group who also run the Southwest Integris ED program. The SwI program has some of the best didactics of any program I've seen, they're up there with some IM programs I've even seen.

Now if you want rumor, there has been the idea that since there is an extremely high application rate at Oklahoma's 2 ED programs, they're talking about starting another after the St A's comes online, they want to start another in Lawton, Ok.

Heck, all of the EM residencies in Oklahoma are run by either Morningstar folks or graduates of the Soutwest program, so I imagine they're all going to look pretty similar now.

They've already made changes. Actually, we'll be reading less (page length-wise) each week come Jan 1 according to the reading schedule they just gave us.

I'm an attending at Saint Anthony's.

The program is still a year or more away. Lots of hoops.
