I'm wondering if it's necessary to get the newest editions of all these popular books on SDN. Buying the second-to-latest edition (assuming it's <6 years old) seems to save hundreds of $$.

I realize that very few people have taken the time to look at multiple editions of books, but I'm wondering mostly about:
-BRS physio
-Robbins review
-Levinson immuno
-any of the plethora of anatomy books you all recommend

Any insight would be greatly appreciated by my wallet. Sigh, living in NYC has taken its toll on me. Saving $200 on books could... pay for my taxi to school tomorrow 😀

you can find many recent edition books used. the books you listed aren't necessary to do well on step 1. you should however invest in the latest editions of First Aid and Goljan Rapid Review Path. You shouldn't be cheap when preparing for step 1.

I hope you're kidding about taking a taxi to school.

I can only vouch for Robbins Review of Pathology and BRS Physiology.

I had the second edition of RRoP and it was nearly identical to the new edition, and 1/10th of the cost.

The newest version of BRS Physiology is in more colors than two... but that's about all. Get the 4th edition.

Good to know. Thanks!

i'm not trying to be an ***** but RR Pathology and FA 2012 is what you need to succeed (sorry for the rhyme). That being said, you need u-world and kaplan q banks. Hopefully that is inexpensive! Cheers!
