New EM residencies in the works

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Agreed 100%. Can't belive it but I'm excited about a new Star Wars movie . Hope you have a great rest of the year. Glad you did well.

We're getting more Star Wars movies ?

First thought: NooooOoo !

Second thought: Well, they can't possibly be any worse than the last three.

Dude with JJ at the helm I can't wait to see them. He made made Star Trek what it should have been. Like next gen. Not the dumb voyager garbage. He made Lost, Fringe, Saving Ryan's Privates.

Never seen a "Star Trek" anything because that's for mouth-breathers.

Saw 15 minutes of "Lost" before I got bored.

No idea what "Fringe" is.

SPR... saw 35 minutes of that before I had to go to work or something.

Did JJ do that "Cloverfield" garbage, too ?

You my friend are missing out. To each his own. What is your favorite movie?

The best movie of all-time is "The Sting". Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

(I'm just being me; I don't have that much venom towards any of the above-discussed things, I just putz around on here and say things like that because you can't win teh internets.)

You guys match yet or what ?

Lol man I know you are a cool guy. I matched to Beaumont!!! So happy!!!

I know Lawton, Ok opened up a new Emergency Medicine residency that starts on July 1, 2014. I have spent a couple months down in lawton ER and it is a great place to get trained. Tons of trauma and very fast paced intense ER. The doctors are all great- very laid back and funny. I spent 15 shifts there and had multiple gun shots, stabbings, MVAs, etc. This is going to be a great ER program that is going to be a very enjoyable environment to spend for residency.

It's not in ERAS yet...

Lol! I am very familiar with reading hospital... Been there many times. Its not so bad! Its actually in wyomissing / west reading, not quite the same as reading proper. I would absolutely love to do my training there. I wonder which cycle it will open for? probably too late for 2014. Such a shame if I miss this opportunity by one cycle!

I hear Greenville in SC is starting up a program. Saw some ad's for faculty positions.

Anyone else think we shouldn't be opening a ton of er residencies? I feel like we should keep a good supply and demand balance. Thoughts?

Yup.

For a similar sentiment, see the Pathology and Radiology forums.

Good luck.

I should be more clear about what I mean: I see some high-acuity, but its all medically-complicated old folks. A-fib in the setting of CHF and hypoxemia, lots of lung disease, drug toxicities, etc.

The stuff that I'm D.O.N.E. with is the knife-and-gun club/intoxicated youth nonsense.

No, thanks.

I hear ya! my shop is level I trauma but not a gun and knife club. over 50% elderly, all with multiple co morbidities, on coumadin, juggling chain saws while climbing trees. I'd rather see high acuity older people than ******* drunks kids any day

you gotta find the right type of patients that will challenge you in residency. every geographic location will give you different fruits. that whole trauma, nasty I'll get shot in the parking lot walking to my car hospital is educational but gets old really fast. it's great for the trauma surgeon b/c it's a ton of OR time but for us in EM it's just more time and documentation to move them along
