Near the end of my 3rd year of med school the guidelines for endocarditis prophylaxis changed (see Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association). So I took step 1 and nearly all of MS3 with the old guidelines. Will I be tested on the new guidelines in Step 2? Or should I answer with the old ones?
Thanks!

Anything is fair game but usually the usmle takes some time before incorporating questions that test new recommendations. I would know it just in case because its an important topic and will be tested in the future but don't expect them to test it anytime soon.

Probably won't show up for a while, but they're actually pretty easy now. As of note, I'm shocked how many attendings seem to be still unaware of them.

I found another inconsistent one. On UW and a bunch of other study sources, they say to use steroids for acute treatment of blunt spinal cord trauma. However, it's controversial and really just false...

When I was younger, I used to think these board/entrance exams were very black and white. However, now I realize that so much of medicine is in flux. Many issues are kind of gray. So I guess I might answer that one "incorrectly," or worse... I may start over thinking questions

I doubt you will see a question on the real exam that doesnt have a clear answer. Some questions might be tough and obscure but the answer can't be in doubt otherwise its not a good question. These exam questions are scrutinized and tested repeatedly to assure of their quality.
