Hi all

I see all the salary issues and come to conclusion that I don't mind hustling 6 days a week to bring in the income I want. My question is as a new pod graduating how do we
-learn to bill and what to bill for
-how to get on insurances
-know what should be in place if I was to open alone from day one and just jump in the waters

I understand that it'll be difficult and ill most definitely make less my first year than I was making in residency but I'm ok with that if I can make my own oath within a couple of years.

I'm genuinely surprised that the sources are very scarce for this especially when it's each and everyone's lively hood after residency. It seems asking established attendings has been my main course but wondering if anyone can give any Insight. Thank you

Either by asking people you know, or trial by fire.

This is usually why people don't do it raw out if residency .

Consider transitioning an older doc out of their practice. Lots of pros and cons. More expensive but less risky, you'll have cashflows and staff day 1. Lots of commenters here will argue against it because it's like buying an old house, there will be plenty to renovate. PM me and I can tell you about pitfalls to look out for.

Hire a good billing company to handle it for you/teach you some of the ins and outs of billing. Join an IPA for insurances if those exist in your area. Start small and see what the market demands, don't invest in tons of fancy equipment/toys that there may not be a demand for in the first place. Establish some cash pay ancillary services. Maybe do some mobile work/house calls/nursing homes to get started (or not). Pray?

What year are you in? If you are a 1st year you have a lot of time to read up on
-credentialing
-billing, Medicare, malpractice, etc
-writing a business plan
-learning about how to apply for a loan
-examining tools/hardware/chairs in PP offices figuring out what you need and what you don't
-finding mentors / talking to people
-working on coding

If you are 3 months from graduation... things will be more probelmatic.
