Hi guys, never knew there were forums about this. I am a second year undergrad at a community college and just sent in my transfer agreements to some UC's. I am very set on going to Dental or Medical school. In highschool I always wanted to go to Medical school and go into recon surgery, then had my heart set on oral and MF surgery, and now either works for me LOL. I just started studying for the MCAT and DAT and took a few practice sheets for both and did well. My chemistry and math are flawless however I am horrible with biology, which I should be taking next semester. I am not worried about it that much since I have 3 more years of undergrad left to finish up bio and physics. (only took one sem. of physics). I am also planning on interning at UCSF next summer and really get some clinical experience. Im currently at a 4.0c and 4.0s and hopefully that wont change!!!!!!! My top dental school of choice is UOP in san francisco and then specializing at highland hospital for OS. I don't have a top medical school, any CA school is on my list, would like to stay around here. I have a few question though, well dental or med schools frown upon my 2 year attendance at an accredited community college? I don't see why it would matter if I am a weld rounded applicant. Also, I am qualified for both microbio BS and BA, I have taken some humanity courses, do you guys think going for a BA will set better grounds for me as far as being well rounded when I apply? Thanks in advance!! love this forum. 😎

First of all, congrats on your 4.0, that's great. The university will be much more competitive which will make it harder so prepare for that. I think if you ace your DAT, dental schools won't really care that much about the CC credit. As far as I know, schools really don't care whether you get a BA or a BS. It's more about what specific classes you took. I chose the BS because it had me take more relevant bio classes for dental school.

Shadow both physicians and dentists and see which really suits you more. Just because you get into dental school does NOT mean you are guaranteed acceptance into an OMFS residency. Don't go to dental school if you aren't remotely interested in general dentistry.

Your stats so far are great! 🙂

I know a lot of students who have transferred from CCs that end up failing classes at UCs (breaking their 4.0 streaks). It's a totally different ball game so be prepared!

Getting a BA vs. BS shouldn't matter too much. Have you considered a double major since you're planning on 3 more years?

Hopefully you know someone @ UCSF or have already contacted a program there (?) or it might be hard to get clinical experience just because you want to (... I know from experience).

Anyway, good luck!!!

Thank you for the comments guys. To clear up why I am in cc, is because I had some family and financial problems out of high school. I was set to go to UCLA and everything, even moved in, but personal problems didn't allow. In all honesty, I am completely prepared for the difficultly at universities and had a 4.0 throughout highschool with 9 weighted classes. I know it really doesn't mean anything but I just wanna let you guys know I am prepared for university-level classes, totally. I am very interested in general dds, as I have a close friend whom I unofficially shadow. I recently learned about mill crowns. All in all thanks for the support, I definitely have the drive!! And about BA and BS, I see, so either won't really matter much I guess, depends more on my schedule.

dude what CC do you go to? i used to go to elco and transferred to UCLA!
good luck!
