Well Hello everyone, newbie here
I had this link in my laptop for who knows how long and decided to come by and join . I just came back from military duty, and Im rushing to get my stuff together in order to apply for D-school. But Im looking for some advice (as this thread is being posted I'll be checking some other threads to gather more info) in regards to application, letters of recommendation, and DAT (study books, online websites, etc etc etc.... u know how it goes) and why not some opinions from ppl on the different dental schools (programs, environment) I just purchased the booklet Guide to dental schools so Im waiting on it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you done with your prereqs? If so then get going on writing the personal statement and get the LOR as soon as possible before the professors get tied up with finals. I recommend that when you ask for recommendations you present them with your resume, personal statement(a presentable one doesn't have to be exactly the final form but close to it) and transcripts. For the DAT use the Kaplan book to study and get sample computer tests from Topscore and/or DAT destroyer since the test is computer based.

Hey thank you for the reply. No im not done w prereq Im missing Biochem which Im taking this summer, plus genetics and microbio fall and thats it as far as prereq. For the letters of recommendation I think Im set (4 of them: 1. Organic prof., 2. Ped. Prof. I did research with at UF, Inorganic chem Prof. and Ortho Dentist I shadowed sometime ago), but do these ppl who r going to submit them have to do it electronically or hard copy letter in envelope??? (I ask because they agreed to write me one, but I don't know how it works due to the electronic application.)
As for the Personal statement thank you I didn't know it was only one page, but it worries me because I got a lot of stuff I want to mention (well will have to work on that).
Lastly as for the DAT I heard that the Kaplan book is not strong in the Bio section (if is true, other than using the Campbell book is there another good source???). I will study for the DAT as soon as I get a chance to organize myself, so Kaplan book, Top score, Ace DAT (someone recommended that), probably will get some other DAT book and lastly try the DAT destroyer. Well sounds like a plan doesn't it???? I'm planning on taking the DAT sometime before the summer is over to be well prepare. Will the timing hurt my application???? And on that note, should I apply even though I'm missing those 3 prereq and at the same time the DAT?? (MAY 15 Opening of application)
Thank you again for the help

Yo. ok. so this is what you should do.
Open an appealing thread and just write down your stats, where you have residency, and how many classes you have completed. As concise as possible.
And ask a few questions at a time (per thread). Kaplan in bio is not good. True because it only gives basics and skips a few topics, but IMO its good for other things. and btw care of people suggesting what books to buy 🙂. The truth is your old O-chem book is enough for O-chem section. Any old bio book will also be enough for
DAT. PAT, you just need a few thousand questions for practice 🙂
QR and RC are both easy, don't really have to study much for those two.
I think thats it.
PS: don't write lengthy paragraphs.

GOOD LUCK

Ok man thanks no more lengthy paragraphs

start a thread in DAT section, ask about some sections.
or another thread in this section: Just got back from a war and I want dental.
I don't know who will not open that hahaha

Spend some time reading past threads. Apply early (like May 15th). That is what I hear over and over.

Nice title doc3232 jajajaja thats a good one. I have to go now from the computer, but will be back later this evening I will get everything straight (ideas) so I can post them. Thank you so much for the help man
