Anybody applied to any Jersey schools? Did you get interviews/acceptances/rejections? PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING...ANYTHING! I had an interview at RWJ early Nov. I haven't heard anything yet? (Should I panick), I have another interview at NJMS late Jan.
If anybody interviewed, how long after your interview did the school contact you?
Thanks.

Hi mellow, congrats on your interviews. i've applied to both NJ schools but haven't been invited to interview yet...how long ago were you invited to interview at RWJ and NJMS?

Hi Mellow,

I interviewed at NJ Med Dec. 5th and got my acceptance call from Dr. Heinrich on Dec. 31st.

I had my interview at Robert Wood today actually at 1:00....I just got back.

The word from my fellow Rutgers friends is that Robert Wood is sending out acceptances tomorrow. So if you get in you'd be getting a call soon from Dr. Terrigino, otherwise I think they contact you by letter.

Hey just try giving them a call maybe tell them ..."I interviewed on this date I was wondering when I should expect to hear"

Good luck!!
Let me know if you have any questions.....

I had my interview at RWJ in Nov. and my NJMS later this month.

I'm interview at NJMS tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knew how much the interview weighed in the admissions process. And for those who were accepted, do you mind sharing your numbers?

sorry for the typo--i meant to write 'i'm interviewing'

For those considering NJ Med, theres a book about their gross anatomy lab which was a pretty good read about what you can expect.

Its called "Body of Knowledge: One Semester of Gross Anatomy, the Gateway to Becoming a Doctor" by Steve Giegerich

anyone know if rwj and nj med have begun to waitlist people???.....I have interviews there in late Feb.

Both schools have been waitlisting people.

I got a letter from RWJ yesterday that I have been placed in the competitive category of either being accepted or placed on alternate list. This is better than rejection so I guess it's semi-good news. What should I do now? wait? send more supportive infor for my application? write kiss-@ss letters to the dean? WHAT?

Call the office and ask if they welcome extra information. They should tell you then I would go ahead and start sending things like updated grades and activites, or maybe even a letter of intent.

I interviewed at NJMED on Feb. 7th and was just informed today that I was placed on the alternate list. Does anyone know if the class is already full and there are only alternate spots left? Any info about movement off this list in previous years? Thanks for your help!

slipslap,

how did you find out so quickly? was it via snail mail or email? i interviwed at umdnj 1/17 and still haven't heard anything!

When I interviewed at NJ Med early December my interviewer said that the class is usually full by December but wasn't this year due to AMCAS. So I would think that now since it's the middle of Feb it would be full. I think you'll see a pretty good amount of movement from the waitlist though. Well good luck.

Thanks Megkudos, I hope (from what I've heard) that with application numbers being down this year there will be some additional waitlist movement.

Does anyone knnow if NJmed runs both a waitlist and alternate list, or just alternate? Thanks.

Hey Slipslap, how did they let you know so fast? Did they email, sanil mail, or call. How did your interview go, did you get feedback during the interview. And if you don't mind, what was your stats. Thanks 😕

I have heard nothing from UMDNJ ever since my file has been complete. R ight now I'm just waiting for my rejection letter, mostly because I'm not a NJ resident. Bah!

Daredevil - I wouldn't give up hope just yet... I'm a PA resident (and have never worked or lived in NJ) and received in the mail yesterday (2/15) an interview invite from UMDNJ-RWJ. (I also took the April MCAT and returned my secondary in September)

OK here is an example of my situation with the UMDNJs...ME:30 R, 3.54 Ton o' research interviewed for both schools in November. RWJMS interview was stellar, NJMS was slightly iffy. Now I am sitting on the "Ranked waitlist" for NJMS and the Alternate list for RWJMS -- I assume they are the same type of list though. Are they? Is there any hope of usefully approx'ing my chances? Can any one out there tell me their experiences, and stats, maybe my stats need more work -- man I hope not though.

hey dirtyone and slipslap, when was your interview at NJMS and when and how did they let you know you were on the waitlist (email, phone, snail mail)

hey sng33 I interviewd 3rd week november, got my waitlist letters NJMS in December, RWJMS last week. I sent a letter of "continued interest" to both schools since then. We'll see what happens. But in case my other schools don't pull through either, maby its time for plan B.....

Sng33 - My interview was on feb.1. This friday I called them to make sure that they had received an additional letter of rec. requested by the school. I was told over the phone of my status. Good Luck everybody!

For NJMS, I do believe there is a ranked waitlist letter and another that just says "you've been put in the alternate list". The former is more positive, since I've gotten e-mail updates about the school from Dr. heinrich ever since I got the letter (before that, Betty Taylor delivered all news). I even replied to Dr. Heinrich and he responded in kind. So if you do get mail from him and are still waiting, you can inquire about your status at [email protected]. Some of his e-mail updates include invites to seminars held at the school, so if possible, it might be good to attend them. There is also a MiniMed program given in April or May, and the price for attending is very cheap, so if you're waitlisted, it might be a good idea to attend these seminars to increase your chances of acceptance. MiniMed is also very informative of how the school operates because you get to have problem-based learning sessions with medical students themselves. Last year a classmate of mine inquired about her status and got a message stating that she was in the middle of the group, at a point where they haven't reached for acceptance... so if you do get that response, then it's pretty much over. Dr. Heinrich does consultation by the phone also, at least, that's what the secretary told me.

I also know a guy who applied to UMDNJ RWJ 3 times. He interviewed early and got the same letter you have twice. He was disgusted with how the letter sounded, saying that he should be congratulated and he's competitive and all, because he ended up in the waitlist and when we went to the pre-med advisor to inquire the school, they told him that he (my friend) was borderline. The third time (this year), he improved his GPA and credentials, but he ultimately got rejected without interview. However, he got in Albert Einstein just recently, and so he couldn't stop saying that in the end, he got the better deal. Anyway, RWJ is pretty frank about giving the status of their applications, so if you've interviewed with them, you can ask Meryle at [email protected]. Don't even bother with Dr. Terrigino, she's almost always unavailable (as opposed to Dr. Heinrich). Sometimes it is difficult to discern whether adcoms takes notice of file updates, since the 2nd time my friend applied and got rejected off the waitlist, Meryle said that his fate was already decided in December (the month after his interview) despite the updates and extra letters of recommendations he sent during the waiting period.

Darkmatter ,

Who is this Meryle person? I just received a letter that I have been waitlisted/placed on alternate list...yadayada blah blah. Now I want inquire about my "position" on this list. Am I number 13 or number 98...? Realistically what are my chances of being on this list forever. I don't want to have to wait until July to get an acceptance.... 😡

Do you have any idea as to how many people usually get off the waitlist?

Mellow,

Meryle's the RWJ's admission director. While reasons for committee decisions are often secret, she will be glad to respond with what she knows. Afterthe deadline, she'll definitely have news of where you are on the waitlist. I've heard that the waitlist is supposedly very mobile (compared to UMDNJ Newark).

Has anyone heard from NJMS?

sitting o the alt list, yet no word to me...any one else>

The official word, as I hear it, is that NJMED has only one waitlist. It is not even ranked until late may or early june. when accepted people drop, they fill the spaces with the alternates, in ranked order. Good luck everybody, I'm right there with ya!!!!

Those of you on the alt list at NJMed, how did you find out and how long after the interview was it. Did they send a letter or email you. Slip slap I know you called to check your status, but what about the others.

lets see, I i-viewed Nov. 15th or so, found out about the "ranked list" second or third week of december. Are we in the same boat?

Interviewed in January and still waiting, did you find out by snail mail?

Dirtyone and Slipslap, are you guys NJ residents?? Just wondering if that makes any difference as to why you were put onto the alternate list.....

I know it is different each year, but, how many people do they take off the ranked waitlist each year???......Also, how do they rank you??....Is it based on everything..(gpa, mcat, recs, extra-curr.)??

This would be great info if anyone has it. I've heard that RWJ traditionally has more movement than NJmed.

Hey guys. I just interviewed at RWJ today and I got the impression that they are not any where near capacity for this incoming class. They expect to interview between 550-600 applicants for 142 spots, but wind up offerring around 300 acceptances or so. That means their waitlist moves quite a bit. We were told the waitlist is tiered or ranked and that "high priority" waitlisters usually wind up getting an acceptance. After the interview you can expect the following scenarios:

1. Acceptance letter (usually 4 weeks)
2. Rejection letter (was told this is rare)
3. "You are competitive and we are looking at your application again" kind of letter. After this letter you can either get #1 or #4 scenario (no rejections for these folks).
4. Ranked waitlist letter.

Hmm what else. I think that is it. Seems like a lot of waitlist movement. Quite a bit of the interviewees today were out of staters (including myself) but atleast half were NJ residents.

Keep the chin up.

ok, now i'm getting depressed. although i received an interview at NJMS and although the interview went really well (its been a little over two weeks and no news yet), i still can't help but wonder why i got rejected from RWJ. i mean, i'm a new jersey resident and obviously competitive enough to receive an interview at a med school.....i don't get it!!! should i write the dean to ask why, just to ease my mind a bit??

I interviewed at NJMS late Jan and I called them last week....(they haven't made a decision yet I was told). Why don't you call them..? They seem more than happy to look up your file for you. After my interview I was told to wait 4-6 weeks though. This is the fifth week. I will make another call next week.
Wishing you Luck

I just interviewed at RWJ on Feb. 20th. Are they interviewing for the waitlist, or there are still spots available? It seemed that there are still seats available, but I'm not sure.

hey mellow, i'm thinking if i don't hear within a month, i'll call. we'll see, just keeping my fingers crossed! good luck to you too

Hello,

I wanted to know if there were any minority students who have heard from NJMS post-interview.

•Hello,

I wanted to know if there were any minority students who have heard from NJMS post-interview.•••••Well I have been calling them once a week for the past two weeks and so far they haven't reached a decision yet. I would say start calling them 5 weeks after your interview...and keep calling once or every other week. Who did you interview with?

Hey Mellow,

I pm'ed you.

The committee at UMDNJ-NJMS meets every thursday so you might want to call every other friday.

BUMP!!

I called the admissions office yesterday and they told me that I had been placed on the alternate list. Anyone know how successful people are of getting off the NJMS waitlist?

I asked admissions the same question about the alternate list...their response was "unfortunately, in the last few years, we have not taken very many students from our alternate list.

sucks

When did you interview? and how long after did you call?

My close friend was accepted off of the alternate list at NJMED last year, so while it may be rare, it does happen! You just have to hope for the best!
