new jersey programs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
did everyone randomly apply blindly to these programs like me? doesn't anyone know anything at all about any of them?

I applied to the Newark program based on my local residency director's advice that it was a solid program.

Don't have any first hand knowledge on the strengths of the programs at NJ, FWIW, all but UMDNJ-Newark accepts DO's. I will be interviewing at St. Barnabas-Livingston, RWJ-Camden and St. Joseph's in Patterson. I'll be happy to write a review based on interviews in the upcoming months. Hope this helps.

really...newark doesn't take DOs...i thought i got an invite there but maybe i am confused by the different umdnj names.
i have to decide st. barnabas or ubuffalo -- i am leaning ubuffalo...any advice?

St. Barnabas - lots of teaching, less clinical - great passing rate. Have to go outside for SICU rotations
UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson (New Brunswick) - 10 residents per year, nice atmosphere, decent teaching, decent exposure to clinical
St. Josephs - inner city style cases with upscale stuff as well

I recently graduated from the UMDNJ Newark campus. A strong emphasis is placed on resident teaching with tuesday afternoon conferences. UMD is a level one trauma center with approximately 25% penetrating trauma. UMD is also a tertiary center for neurosurgery and large ENT cancers. In addition to the Newark campus, residents spend 3-4 months each year at Hackensack Hospital which is a large and busy community hospital. Lastly, the majority of residents that have applied for fellowship programs over the last few years have matched at top programs.

If you have any specific questions email me at [email protected]

Keep in mind that St. Barnabas is a 4 year categorical program. Might factor in to your decision if you plan on practicing on those states that require an osteopathic internship. Hope this helps!

St Josephs is a program also in northern New Jersey. I am a third year and have been very pleased thus far with my experience.

We are an affiliate of Mount Sinai and our primary facility is in Paterson, New Jersey. A 900 bed busy trauma center with a very active children's hospital on site (including peds hearts). We have a nice diversity of cases. We also spend time at St Michael's medical center in Newark (I believe about 400 beds with top notch cardiac surgery including robotic midcabs)

This program offers great attendings and nice case diversity.

St Josephs is starting a 150 million dollar renovation and st Michaels is planning a 150 million dollar renovation! I think we have 18 anesthesia residents total.

Excellent atendings, Very exciting place traumas are unreal..any questions just email me....We can set up a rotation for you

I couldn't be happier
