There is a new medical school in Bahrain, owned and operated by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland,..............it started in 2004 with the first class of foundation year students, and now is in its 3rd year..................
its has currently students enrolled from all over the gulf and middle east region as well as American, Canadian, and European students enrolled.......
to find out more information, go to the website www.rcsi-mub.com..............
its an exciting development and for students who want to study medicine, its another school to be considered when deciding where they should apply to study.........................
all the best with the medical school application in the coming year,

Ya I heard about it when I was graduating high school.. that's 4 years ago. Problem is tuition is crazy.. no loans obviously so best be a trust baby, and it's not very universty-like... it just seems like a building in a congested town.

Bahrain's pretty cool though if you can deal with all the saudis barralling over every weekend/holiday... -sigh- my countrymen are such an embaressment!

The present campus location is tempory, and as its in its third year, this location at present caters for pre- clinical teaching of the sciences. The new campus, with the new teaching hospital is set to open in the summer of 2008,
from the web-site this new campus looks like it will be truly a futureistic development,................it will not only cater for MD medical training but postgraduate training as well,................an international pharmacy, dentistry, and physiotherapy schools are due to open in the new development. Currently there is a nursing school as well at the present campus location.
Building a university form scratch takes time, but i would say that as the Royal Colllege of Surgeons in Ireland are the owners and leading this unique development in medical education, and having been in the role of providing medical education since the 1700's, there is a vast tradition, experience of knowledge and a tradition of excellence in the practice of medicine, i believe it will be a truly world class development.

so we will have to wait and see,......................all i can say is that the RCSI school in Dublin, is highly regarded in the US and Canada for the quality of the students it produces, and world wide its got an excellent reputation.
the school in penang malaysia, which RCSI dublin owns with another College, University College Dublin has been graduating students since 2001,.........this college is a twinning programme , with the pre clinical in Ireland , with the clinical in back in Penang. While in Diblin , these students take there fair share of Gold medals, in the various subjects, and top the class for student performance year on year. Presently, as the numbers have grown from around 20 returning in 1999, to the present number of around 120-130 students returning to Penang in 2006, the growth rate has been truly amazing, this no of 120-130 students is the limit the class sizes will be. The teaching transfer of knowledge by Irish Professors to the clinical setting in penang has been an amazing success, so the the transfer of this knowledge to the RCSI college in Bahrain should be the same.
i kind of like to write about , how Irish medical education has been a world leader,....................as in the US, the leader's of medical education development there in the middle of the 1800's and 1900's in schools all around the US and Canada, have been Irish or British trained doctors,...................a tradition that lives on today with the developments in Penang, Malaysia and Bahrain.
so to all who may consider this school, the tradition from which it comes is world class, and hopefully the tradition will live on.
