They are not sure, but very soon. All the BS with the medical board is over, but a few regs have to be rewritten. 🙂

There are 2 universities in NM, so the grad student impact is minimal; this was a grass roots effort from the start from licensed psychologists. However, the students are excited about it. I wonder how many pro and con RxP folks have ever been to NM?? I am not talking about a trip to Santa Fe, but really seen the state? I have been a few times, and have seen north to south; they need all the help they can get!! It is a beautiful state with alot of problems. There are many stretches of 3-400 miles where the only medical care is tribal, and only open to tribal members (federally funded). It is not so much that psych care is needed, but more so that any and all medical services are needed. Holier than thou types on both sides should go see what life is like in rural America before they preach what they do not understand. NM will be a rock for RxP, as there are so many in need.

The New Mexico psychologists who're gaining prescriptive privileges...are they adequately trained in pharmacology to know what they're doing? Psychotropic meds have some nasty side effects & interactions, and I'm talking real-world and not just "stories doctors come up with to scare you"-level stuff.

The NM Government is aware of the problems that plague their behavioral healthcare system, and believe that giving psychologists prescription pads is the answer. 🙄

Total horsecrap Publichealth. You are showing your studenthood. NM RxP folks are not only well trained but have to work under an MD for 2 years to even approach an independent DEA. No zealot like a convert publichealth. Talk to us when you graduate and have broken your teeth...

Your argument ad hominem does not secure the validity of your position. The upshot is that in a few years the "holier than thou types on both sides" will get to see and objectively measure the impact of RxP for psychologists. I sincerely hope that this impact is very positive.
