Hi All,
Asking for input on the implications of an AD commitment that ends July 1 2014 with the new match rules that we cannot accept positions outside the match...
I am trying to resign my commission at the end of my 4 year active obligation to enter a civilian program in July 2014. I am coming up on my last year in, starting the resignation process and getting my eras/nrmp issues in order.
I am concerned that if I am held back by my command until exactly July 1 (or even later for some unknown reason that is within the realm of possibility), I will not be able to start a civilian program in July (practically speaking I will need to be there in June for orientation) and really anger the program or lose my contract with the program. However, I am not able to enter as an off-cycle start with a position outside the match unless I wait until February 1 of the next calendar year as I read the new NRMP rules (so that would be February 2015).
Conversely, if I can plan to use accrued leave and get to the program in June, I will have to pay back one month pro-rated ASP bonus if I accept the full bonus this July, is that how everyone else reads the rules? Its not a problem financially but I want to make sure I have the check in by certified mail to Millington now so they cannot hold it over my head.
Thanks in advance.
I am AD Navy for the purposes of the question.
