I am currently working on a new practice and I wanted to know how realistic it would be to hire a physician from the get go? I don't intend to practice clinically myself. I plan on running the practice though. Anyone else done this?

Sounds like an expensive endeavor to start a new clinic with no patients and a salary for a full time doctor. What are you hoping to get out of this situation?

A very long time ago (1984) fresh out of my fellowship an M.D. in Pennsylvania wanted to hire me to do injections and evaluation for a spine center. What intrigued me was he also planned to hire a neurosurgeon. I thought that was really cool (an anesthesiologist hiring a neurosurgeon) but i really wanted to go back to CA. Which i did, and got a job with an HMO. Personally i would hate to run a practice.

It's more sensible for non-operative specialists to hire surgeons and tell them when to operate than for surgeons to hire interventionists.
