New Pre-Dental Thread

Okay SDNers,

I haven't posted a new thread for a long time, but I feel the urge. Amidst the anxiety of the approaching month of december, I am seemingly numb to most things said or presented in any of my classes.

One thing was said today in one of my classes that awoke me from a slumber of thoughtlessness.

"everything we do in life, we do for a feeling"

Predents, this is interesting to me because we all posts things in here and what feelings are we after when we do that? Do we want to piss people off or bash them or do we like the feeling we get when we help countless NOOB's with the same old questions. Or do we come here and post because we don't have anyone else near that understands and we need that comradery?

Do you all agree with this philosophy of feeling chasing and how does it relate to predents in late november? Once we get that great feeling of getting aceptted, then what feelings are we after?

deep mood indeed. I post on SDN bc of the comradery. Not many of my non-predent friends understand the excitement or anxiety that comes with the application cycle. thus, its hard to share or relate. i guess its fun sharing your experiences with people equally as interested and committed to the same goals as you. gl to all.

agree...not too many people can relate to this period, or the entire ordeal for that matter, like fellow pre-dents. It's nice to connect with people who actually care and know enough to give their honest opinions and advice, especially for those who don't have a strong pre-dental community in their undergrad.

i agree with the 2 previous posts. i too am on here b/c nobody else in my family or that i am friends with is on a similar path, so it is nice to have a place to discuss issues my friends and family don't fully understand since they haven't been through it themselves.

I agree with all of u. There is nothing cooler than having someone tell u "wow it is really cool that u want to be a dentist". Hahha... sumluck this one is for u silly one.

No one knows our pain, the pain of waiting and hoping for that letter!

yep, that's my baby!! well, actually she's my bf's baby; she is a rescued cat, and since he and i met right after he adopted her, i consider her my baby too.

it's a boy? awww... u luv cats. I have a boy myself, and a girl. But the boy kitty is much more affectionate.

I adopted both of my cats too.... and they are so greatful. Will u take him to school with u? I am so afraid I might not have enough time if and when I start dental school. He gets really jelaous if i have homework, and no time to pay attention to him. But we share cereal in the morning hahah.. i know.. i am a dork!

she is a female, and yes, she will be accompanying me to d-school. my bf wants me to take her if i move out of state so that i have some company. she is also such a thankful cat. when my bf adopted her she was so depressed at the shelter she wouldn't even pick her head up and look at him 🙁 , but now she is living the high life. we even have pet health insurance for her 😳 .

back to your original statement---i had a psych prof. in college who said that everything we do, we do as a means to have sex (the result of course being procreation)....i thought that was rather interesting.

a lot of people i have told this statement to think it is ridiculous, but i still think it is an interesting notion nonetheless.

I guess that can be related to searching for great feelings through actions.

My class wasn't a psych class today it was a Human Performance class with the emphasis on behavior change, (which really is psych) but anyway, it caught my attention and struck some kind of chord in my soul. And it left me pondering all sorts of weird things all day.


I guess there was so much truth to the statement that I bought into the idea and analyzed every aspect of my life and that led me back to SDN and my current emotional/behavioral state.

Wow, did I just say all that. I am going for a run to blow off this mood.
