there are 140 programs or so, about the same # as us med schools.....that's not "a few"
see www.aapa.org in the student section for links to all.

There seem to be very few PA programs. Does anyone know of any new programs being developed??

There are actually only six states without a PA program. Alaska, Wyoming, Mississippi, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island if I remember correctly. Like medical education most PA programs are concentrated in the north east or south. There are also quite a few in Texas and California. The South Central and Rocky Mountain Areas have the fewest.

The primary difference is that medical school classes tend to be larger. There were approximately 5300 PA graduates last year and around 19,000 Allopathic and Osteopathic graduates.

There have been 1-3 programs per year opening for the last few years. In 2007 there were three new programs.

Grr I hate students who make you buy a computer [[Arcadia]]. My computer far exceeds any computer they would give me and the ones they offer would just frustrate me, I'd never use it, sell it when I graduated, and just lose money for no reasons.

The computer Arcadia gives you costs you $2,000 and it is far less powerful than the system I just bought for $1,400! So silly! Any school that requires a laptop purchase would automatically be eliminated from my list of potential schools. I prefer a school that requires you to have a computer with certain minimum specs. I can get that computer that Arcadia makes you buy for at least $500 less than they give it to students for. What a rip!
