Hi, I think most of your scores are solid, but you may want to check with some schools about the PAT cut off. If you want to retake, don't go to the same prometric center again...Also I'm confused about your lack of time to finish the science section since you've done qvault (I had like 35 minutes left after I finished science section so I can double check).

What's your GPA?

also sorry about the people not letting you draw the grid during the tutorial.

I guess I should contact each prometric center and see if I can utilize those 15 minute tutorial.

lol, you saying "solid scores" makes me feel a little more relieved - but realistically, with the time I spent and the scores I was receiving while practicing - I am still in shock I did that poorly. Good job with your score, after seeing it I'm surprised you didn't ask, "did you even study?" 😳.

My bio section was really wordy. I found I had to read questions a few times because:

1) I was a little riled up with how bad the prometric center was, I tried to relax and just push forward, but it didn't help that it happened right before I took the exam.

2) Just the general adrenaline rush with taking the exam - I would skim the question more than directly "read" the question, finding I had to reread in order to see what they were actually looking for. I had a pretty hard time sleeping last night as well - I suppose that played a role.

I have a 3.9 cumulative after aadsas calculated it. I currently attend a Big 10 school. The DAT was not representative at all with what I am capable. I feel like the schools are just going to take one glance at my application and laugh while they throw it to the side.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Yea being too nervous is your worst enemy. I tried to calm myself down during the 15 min tutorial after I have finished drawing the grids, and whenever I had a wordy problem or the question is time consuming, I skipped it just so I can have enough time to double check it later (pacing is everything). Schools pay least amount of attention to QR, so don't worry about that. I think some schools care about PAT, while others not so much so you need to check that before applying.

3.9 GPA?? dude. You are in. Don't worry about this stupid DAT. Just relax and enjoy your summer.

Also, I effin hate PAT:laugh:

Wow I'm gonna have nightmares now about this. I really hope my testing center lets me draw out my grids. Although, worst case scenario, I'd probably only lose something like 2 or 3 minutes to draw them all out quickly once the "real counter" started.

How many schools did you apply to?
I applied to 12 schools, however it is more realistically 9.

I applied to the majority of the schools in the Midwest, along with North Carolina and the three Texas schools.

Being a non-resident of Texas, I was basically banking on destroying the DAT for a shot. 2/3 of my family lives in Texas (my entire fathers side, him included). With a 3.9 GPA, and with what I've down with research, volunteering, clinic work, hospital work etc...I figured it was worth a shot.

As Michael Jordan said, I'm paraphrasing - You miss all the shot's you don't take.

Yeah, I have already applied, and some of the schools have made mention of their preference to higher PAT scores. The schools were just waiting on my DAT. The Prometric center I went to is the one directly on campus - I can't believe they weren't custom to having people write on it during the tutorial.

The way they said was that directly in the rule book it is stated, "Writing can only occur if there is a count down timer actively counting down". Which I replied after seeing the countdown timer in the tutorial, that I should be eligible. The guy went to get some woman that came, and stated "I heard there is a problem". I explained the situation and she still said No - while being incredibly rude and condescending...my mind was blown with what was coming out of her mouth and her tone.

I want my $320 to sign up for the test back and I want to take it again...tomorrow. I am planning on taking the DAT again, but fuark, I don't want to. It has literally consumed my life this past 6 months, all I could think about. I don't know how I am going to manage my schedule next semester and studying for the DAT again - although, I guess I know most of the material.

I am curious to how schools will view my application and how this score will impact chances of getting an interview.

Financially, I had to take 3 semesters at a CC* and my very first semester at my University I received a 3.42 GPA.**

Despite taking on average 19 credits a semester since then and actually having a higher GPA at my University than I did at my CC - I feel like schools will discredit my 3.9 cumm. GPA because of how I did on my DAT.

*Received a full ride scholarship - it is actually a good school too, honestly, some of my classes there were more difficult than my ranked Uni...serious lol

**OCHEM - LOL, taking Ochem my first semester at University was a bad idea. After transferring, I felt like I was starting from scratch with extracurriculars and I essentially spent a lot of time with that - getting involved with volunteering, research and academic clubs...and neglecting Ochem because it wasn't quite as fun.. 😛

I don't see how they are gonna discredit your GPA since you still did well at the university.

I am actually in the same boat as you. Started at cc (all prereqs there) and just transferred also to a big 10. When you said big 10 you meant big east right?

lol

I think the whole "no drawing during the tutorial" thing freaked you out in the beginning and could have easily been the fact that impacted the performance on the rest of your exam.
You GPA is solid, so hopefully you will be ok!

How do they know if you are on the tutorial or taking the test? I thought the prometric center had multiple tests offered so can they keep up with every person there?? I am starting to worry cause I banked on being able to use those 15 minutes for setting up for the PAT.

Each test taker has a security camera above their heads so it's easy to see what you are doing...

If they don't let you do it during the tutorial, I know some people say they finish sciences with like 20 minutes left!? I'd do it then if you couldn't during the tutorial. Unfortunately I am not banking on me having more than 1-2 seconds left before finishing the science section. I usually just do it for the weird ones that I'm having a hard time seeing. it takes 3 seconds to draw the 6 lines to almost guarantee getting the question correct = worth it in my book!

My testing center had no problem with me scribbling during the tutorial....as far as they were concerned I had already begun my exam. Nonetheless; If you feel the testing center was negligent, I recommend contacting ADA testing services and asking them to look into this, you have 5 business days to initiate an appeal. If they find the testing center was at fault you may be eligible for a retake...meaning they'll replace your scores with the ones from the retake. Additionally, you would be able to retake the exam within the next 30days instead of having to wait the usual 90 days.

Wow, I am very sorry you had to deal with that--and right before your test too! Some people are just more prone to stressing and making mistakes with something stressful like that occurring. I know I would have freaked out. So if you truly feel that your testing performance was diminished by their rudeness and inadequate services, then I would call ADA. I just called my testing center to check, and they said it was all right to utilize the first 15 minutes for "whatever you want to do". So hopefully, that holds true come test day.

I am sorry you had to go thru that before your exam...it's really not fair not being able to write anything before you start test ...and you are already in the exam room with the cameras so why does it matter you write or not on your laminated sheets??????

But with your solid GPA i think you will be fine...the only concerning score is PAT but national average changes from one cycle to another and I think when ADCOMs are looking at your app they are not holding DAT as only requirement...they look at your application as a whole so GOOD LUCK!

for people taking DAT in coming weeks my recommendation is ask your testing center ahead of time....My testing center was really up to standards but the person checking me in told me that I cannot access my locker during my scheduled break.....it surprised me as I was planning on snaking and drinking water during my break to get going....so I told her to confirm on this.... as I know you cannot access your locker during any unscheduled breaks (nobody takes it any ways) but you can during your scheduled break and she was nice enough to confirm without frowning and told me she did not know about it…..confirmed with other staff and let me access my locker during break.

Hey sorry to hear about this. I know the pain as I went through it too. Do you know which schools have high or low emphasis on PAT?
Thanks

Guys, I just called ADA and they told me that you are NOT allowed to use the laminated sheets DURING the tutorial

Ridiculous, why? The tutorial is part of the test....we should be allowed to utilize that time however we want. I bet they just made up that rule.......since so many people complained about it already...

Yeahhhh, I'm still going to use my tutorial to set up PAT unless they tell me specifically to not do it beforehand. I would rather use my leftover sciences time to check over my answers. It's not like I'm cheating on PAT somehow. Kaplan told me we could use the first 15 min, so this must be a recent rule change. Ridiculous.

I've never been to a Prometric testing site so I don't know how the testing area is set up but, what if you don't mention anything about it to them beforehand and when the tutorial starts, you just set up the paper? Will they come into the testing area and stop you? I know that they keep a close eye on you during the test; are they in the same room with you, or do they 'surveillance' using a camera?

Yah, just called my prometric too, and they said you cant. and he looked up all the rules for me again after I explained that we usually are. 🙁 argghhhh

lol what a bunch of BS... guess I should add something else to my studying routine: learn how to set up 15 tic-tac-toe boxes with two hands in less than a minute

LOL with two hands...

I think we (who need to draw grids and tic tac toe boxes) for the PAT are gonna be in trouble...

I hope that GOD is gonna help us people who are taking their DAT after the change of rule.

That stinks that they just changed the rules up like that.. But everyone should realize, that means everyone is in the same boat. The playing field is level. If that makes it any better :/

huh??

what about people who took the test BEFORE the rule change?

Go to the test center with two plans. Plan A should be to casually start making your grids at the tutorial. If they yell at you...then do it at the end of your science section. From what I hear, most people finish early in the sciences. I dunno about you guys, but I fly through the biology tests on places like qvault. You either know it or you don't. Same with orgo.

Ugh... when did this rule change come about??

Or was it always a rule and it's just now getting noticed?

Hardly, as only a few prometric centers seem to be enforcing it.

Wow. This sucks.

How will the prometric center even know if your at the tutorial? Do they stare at your computer while you take the test to see which section your on?

Let's be realistic, how long is it really gonna take u to scribble tic tac toe boards? 5 seconds? You'll waste more time than that on a tricky top/front/end problem... You'll be fine. More importantly, consider the fact that the markers for the test do not erase anymore and u need to raise ur hand to get a new board once u fill in ur sheets, during the timed test... Focus on writing small, scribbling everywhere and start raising ur hand when u have only 1.5 sides left to write on, takes them a minute to get to u, find out what u need then come back with a new board, trade in ur boards at ur break too.

Are you saying you studied for 6 months for the DAT?

Just start drawing those six lines as you're analyzing the folds without looking at the board. It shouldn't be detrimental at all to your timing.

Did you take enough Biology courses or do well in Chem?

Prometric is symptomatic of the larger overbloated fascist bureaucratic corporate state modern america has become in the last 10-15 years. Prometric staff no doubt have been convinced (during incessant weekly staff meetings led by corporates who experience only the most rare and overt instances of cheating) they are the boots on the ground for 'homeland (in)security'. All those bored social security collecting retirees have to have something to do other than take up space at the local mall, senior center, or assisted living facility:meanie:

remember, too, that these are the geniuses in possession of your fingerprints, credit card numbers, personal identification data, etc etc etc. Boy, I feel so safe.

revolution now! no justice no peace:laugh:

 Almost all the Prometric staff at my testing center were very young college-aged students. The guy who printed out my scores looked at my score sheet for an awfully long time though. Kinda rude. :meanie:

Sorry for the silly question, but assuming we save a board for making boxes/numbering etc, are we allowed to hang on to that board and just swap out the other boards? Or do we have to swap out all 3 at the same time?

During the break, the guy just came into my cubicle and switched all three for three fresh ones.

At the center i went to, they said to come pick up new ones whenever i needed them 😵 I was not about to waste 2-3 precious minutes, so i used only two. Oh and I forgot to switch them during the break -.- so I had to squeeze in RC and QR
