I'm an MSI and I've been holding out on purchasing Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease because I've heard that a new edition will be coming out soon. Does anyone out there know if this is true, & if so, when is it due out? If it's going to be a while, I'll probably just give in and buy the 6th ed. I doubt too much has changed anyway. Thanks for the info.

Well, they are about due for a new edition, but I checked the publisher's website and searched a few med book store websites and couldn't find any indication of a new edition being put out in the next few months. If you want it now, I would go ahead and buy it. You may want to consider purchasing the question book along with it as a package deal too, they have some great pictures in that question book.

i'd hold off. you still got a bit of time till' second year.

Do you have access to MDConsult? They have Robbins on there and tend to update to the latest versions. Your money may be better spent on that since you'd have access to the latest versions of textbooks in every field.

There's a new 7th edition of "baby Robbins." I have both big Robbins 6th and baby Robbins 7th and I can tell you there's not much difference in them. In fact, big Robbins has more info in it obviously.

Just wait till second year. If the new big Robbins 7th is out by then, buy it. Else, I think the 6th edition is fine.

Big Robbins, Edition 7 is coming out this spring/summer. I would highly suggest waiting to buy it, as some of the material in Edition 6 is outdated and will only become more so.

Medical knowledge has a turnover of only a few years, so you might as well wait for the latest info.

Who cares. You probably won't read it, just maybe look at the pictures.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just continue to mooch off my classmates and hold out until the big 7th edition then. We've got a problem-based, or patient centered learning curriculum here & with that I've found that Robbins comes in handy quite often. We have to present learning issues/ objectives to a small group each week & since we are dealing with a new disease each week it really helps to have a good path book. Anyone else out there with a similar curriculum experience this?

BTW I love having patient cases to center our weeks around. I think I'd go nuts sitting in lectures all day!
