Thanks to you both!
Piggybacking here as someone interested in competitive specialties. Choosing between As from Roseman vs an established DO (DMU, WesternU), which is the better bet? This is the newest one, 2024-2025 Roseman
What are the specialties? Tough choice here but MD name helps alot in a lot of programs and DO stigma is a real thingPiggybacking here as someone interested in competitive specialties. Choosing between As from Roseman vs an established DO (DMU, WesternU), which is the better bet?
atm ortho or plastics (leaning burn reconstruction/plastics)What are the specialties? Tough choice here but MD name helps alot in a lot of programs and DO stigma is a real thing
I ofc am totally open to that changing and recognize that it's no guarantee even with an md. but I'd like to not close the door anytime soon if possible
talk to the people at the DO school. But especially plastics, I'd go to the MD.
First get into medical school, then worry about residencies.Piggybacking here as someone interested in competitive specialties. Choosing between As from Roseman vs an established DO (DMU, WesternU), which is the better bet?
As an md, more doors will be open to you. But one thing I've noticed over the past five years, is that DO's are cracking the glass doors open more and more.
Reality check time: it's also hard for MD's to get into the Uber specialties.
sorry, I'll clarify. I have gotten into the DO. I recently received the secondary for Roseman and am trying to decide whether it's worth putting in the work and sending in the application for an MD hail Mary or if I should just stick with what I've got at this point. Roseman is close to family/in-laws, lower COL, etc so there are several practical benefits. But I recognize that sometimes I don't know when to take the win, and I want to make a wise choice about where I'm putting my effort.First get into medical school, then worry about residencies.

definitely not expecting anything magical to happen re: specialties, though it's really good to hear that maybe those doors aren't locked shut as tight as people used to say they were.

if you want the option of choosing, I would send the app in ASAP. Im not sure how much interviewing and acceptances they have left, given their sdn thread.
Don’t know much about the school but I would be worried for opportunities, particularly research. With the other two med schools in town and limited opportunities as is, not sure Roseman could provide much support in that area

I'm surprised Roseman is still sending out applications.sorry, I'll clarify. I have gotten into the DO. One would think silver Staters would have filled up the class already. If you feel that you need to do due diligence, send in the application. The worst thing that will happen is that they will say no
