I would say that you could go either way based on the preference of your letter writer. If he feels like he needs more words to explain something about you or build you up, then you could go with the traditional letter. However, this new standardized style does provide a box for other comments. I also feel like most admission committees are still used to the traditional style of letters.

If I was applying now, I would probably go for the traditional one. But that's just me.
