Hey folks,

I never really had an email signature, but I figure a professional one would be good for my med school email. Does anyone use OMS1? If so, how? YayPudding, OMS1?

Thanks

You're an inspiration. Short and to the point 🙂

Also don't forget to include your favorite ice cream flavor and how many IG followers you've got!

In all seriousness, I'd have the following signature:

YayPudding
DO Candidate, Class of 2021
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
[email protected]

Keep it simple and straightforward. Hope this helps!

Don't forget MCAT score, GPA, and the Step score you are going to get.

So like
YayPudding
DO candidate, Class of 2021
MCAT: 528
GPA: 4.0
USMLE Step 1: 280
Future member American Board of Neurosurgeons

People need to know exactly who they are talking to.

Name, Last Name
Medical Student, graduation year
Name of Medical School
Name of University

or

Name, Last Name, OMS-X
Name of Med School
Name of University

Also don't forget to include your favorite ice cream flavor and how many IG followers you've got!

I once went to school with a RD who, no joke, had:

Name
RD (percentile on RD exam), MPH (highest honors), highest honors graduate (year)
University X Sports Team Nutritionist (nutritionist of the year, year)
Hospital X Nutritionist (ranking of hospital in state X)
Graduate Asisstant - Email (I will not take emails regarding information present on syllabus)

I'm sure that psychiatrists/psychologists can write books on what an email signature says about you...

...when people turn Facebook into LinkedIn

Why would you lol

But if you did, make sure you put in how many II's you were offered, how many you went to/cancelled so people don't judge you for only having 5 acceptances, and how many were MD so we know your not stupid. Rejections is some added fluff as well as how many waitlists.

I got Grand Master in Heroes of the Storm this season. Should I be using this as my signature on my school and personal email? I have a screenshot and everything I could put in too.

I'd include your Diablo 2 character levels(if you have them)----I believe back in middle school I had a lvl 98 Necromancer. This is a huge selling point with the med schools and the ladies. Believe me.

I'm neither an adcom member nor lady, but I find a 98 necro impressive. I had a 96 pally and 94 assassin, but that grind to 98 takes dedication. I hope that found a place in your PS. Resilience, determination, all the qualities a med student should possess.

Wow, this is really helpful! You are God.
I'd suggest not using your signature with classmates or professors in your department since it takes up so much space and looks pretentious. Just put your name, year (M1,2,3,4), and phone (if warranted). I'd pretty much only use the official signature for any communications outside the university since it looks official and like you know what you are doing.

Let's hope nobody starts the debate of "class of xxxx" vs "MD candidate xxxx" vs "medical student year x" for your position in official emails. It doesn't really matter. Take your pick.

Agreed, I don't think it matters. Unless your school has an official rule about it, and even in that case I doubt something like that is very seriously enforced as long as you keep it professional. I also usually remove the signature if I'm sending an informal email.

Mine is just:
Firstname Lastname OMS-III
School Name
Email Address

...and then you get this smart kid in your class with an ultra sophisticated signature:

-J

(Name not even spelled out)
