I have recently decided to apply to dental school and take the DAT. I took the MCAT recently and got a 25. I know the differences between the MCAT and the DAT material wise but I was wondering how, if there is anyone like me here, you approach the test? Would it be useful to use the MCAT material for genchem, ochem, bio for the DAT even though the ques r different? I was planning on buying a DAT question bank from Kaplan or something (if they have it available).
Also can a calculator be used on math section? or scrap paper to do the work?

The material in the sciences is for the most part the same; though I believe the bio section on the DATs does include more plant biology and such which is not included in the MCATs. You're probably better off just buying a used Kaplan DAT book just to give you a better idea of which concepts are specifically tested for on the DAT. Or you know, go to barnes and nobles for an afternoon and peruse the material.

As for your other questions, yes calculator is now allowed on math section. And pretty much most centers stopped giving out scrap paper for you to do your work. Instead they give you 2 dry erase sheets, 2 markers and an eraser. Hope that helps. Good luck.

p.s. welcome to the better health profession 😛

Take a free practice DAT at Kaplan...they try and pitch their program to you, but it's nice to have a comparable practice test/conditions to gauge where you stand for DAT scores. Anything we say doesn't mean squat compared to those numbers.

Good review materials: DAT Destroyer (for sciences), Crack DAT for PAT and QR, Chad's videos (G-chem and O-chem review), Topscore (practice tests). You don't have to do all or any of these obviously, but these were the most helpful resources for me.

I wouldn't rely on the calculator...I only used it on maybe 2 questions because my brain was too fried at the end of the test. It is frustrating to use because there is a small lag time when you click buttons...maybe I'm just picky tho lol. Best of luck~~
