What do the retail pharmacists on this board do in order to make their everyday job more enjoyable? In other words, what do you in order to get through the 12-14 hour days? I just try to talk to as many people as I can and on slow days its like watching paint dry!Haha

If there actually is down time where our pharmacists aren't talking to patients, counting C-II's, checking scripts, or doing other house-keeping duties, then I've seen them do anything from joke around or just talking about random crap with the techs to, in the case of Christmas day, bringing a dvd player and watching movies, to just relaxing, eating, and doing a Sudoku.

...wow...that sentence sucked...

In both my jobs - retail & hospital, I've always got a long term project going.

In retail, currently, its travel medications & immunizations.

I'm not really a game player so I don't do that, but if there is free time in bits & pieces, I'll try to get caught up with the chit chat of my co-employees lives - what their kids are doing, how the garden is looking, where the next vacation will be, etc....

if we're slow, we'll surf the web, chat, play games....gossip a lot....listen to someone's ipod.
if i work a holiday or an overnight, i bring a dvd player. just in case!

at my pharmay, all the pharmacists eat a ton. Everywhere i look i see food. It is incredible

Darn, isn't that the truth! Maybe there's a medication that can help me stop eating😉.

My store, too! The only time I really eat junk food is when I go to work. Good thing I'm only working 1 night a week during our summer semester! I have circus peanuts, coconut-encrusted marshmallows (wow, are they divine), M&Ms, and popcorn all in one night.

Sometimes I will do CE's, well actually thats all I can do at work. We have no access to the web, except CVS website. It's either CE's or clean shelves👎 or watch the time go by slowly.

We don't allow food in the pharmacy - none of them & particularly not ICU/OR. (we do have a candy bowl in some of the pharmacies - OR especially.)

You can take water with you (bottled with a cap), but no sodas - especially near computer keyboards.

Sometimes, during holidays, there might be a box of candy or something. Occasionally, there will be a drug company 🙂eek:!) sponsored lunch, but after its done, its whisked away & put away.

Really - no food, which is all good!

no food in the ICU, huh?

both my hospitals' ICU nurses' stations are usually loaded up with goodies. like the time we had a patient whose family owned a bakery; boy, did we eat! it's disgusting if you think about where you're eating. ew!

we have food all over my pharmacy. the only place we don't eat is in the IV room, thank god! it's a bear to try and lose weight!😀

I shop down the aisles everyday. Our pharmacy is loaded with food, chips, cookies, drinks, you name it.

when i first started, i was amazed that they were eating food in front of patients and customers, geez when i was a server, i would be cruxified if they saw me ingesting anything and now there are whole pieces of watermelon just floating around the pharmacy in plain sight.

I try to only eat when there are no patients around. But sometimes we are so busy that I just go in back and finish something quick.

This would never happen if that nazi z-pack dude is running the place...

Perhaps, zpack should start running your place?

haha, I just watched "Catch a Fire" the other night.

Watching movies and getting paid for it..... In Pennsylvania any TV must be outside the pharmacy and the screen must face away from the pharmacist.

seriously? there's a statute in PA pharmacy practice about TV's?

In New Jersey too. Screen must not be visible from the pharmacy working/drug storage area.

I like to talk, so I just chat with coworkers. Or, if I am alone or too tired to talk, I will read some gossip magazines, but I only have downtime if it's a major holiday like the Fourth of July or Thanksgiving. I am glad I don't work retail full-time, I probably would be burned out very quickly, especially if I worked in one store all the time. I like floating a lot better - more people to meet, less problems to deal with (as you can always leave them for the regular pharmacists, since you usually don't know what's going on with that patient's peculiar request anyway - so please forgive us, floaters, I know you get pissed off when you find a bunch of post-its with our writing on Monday morning).

It has something to do with distractions to the pharmacist...... I sure miss it during Eagle's games...
