For those attending NYCPM, can anyone recommend a suitable area to live that is w/in a reasonable commute (walking/train) to the school? I am not going with school housing and was looking at some places for a short term basis until i get to know the area better. Any suggestions would be helpful. Currently I am looking at the Bronx and Astoria.

Why not school housing? There is a new building at 126 and Adam Clayton BLVD that is awesome if they started filling it yet. Call Lisa Lee and ask.

Otherwise - The clocktower in the bronx at 112 Lincoln Ave is loft apts that were reasonable when I lived there ~ 700 square feet and you can build rooms and have a roomate if needed. It is 2-3 blocks from the 138th St 6 train station and one stop to school or the bus stops across the street on its way over the bridge to manhattan. I walked to school most of the time or rode my bike from there ~20min walk.

I also lived in Astoria which is a nicer neighborhood but a long commute and the need to change trains and trains that run slow late at night. Inconvenient for late night studying.

Good luck.

have you tried craigslist? I found plenty of "semi-cheap" places on the UES and UWS. i'm sure you could find some nice places in astoria also. when are you moving and where are you coming from?

I am transferring in and have to be there on 6/05 for registration. Coming in from Utica, NY.

I talked to Erin in housing and supposedly there is supposed to be another building in the works (Dafina I believe its called). She said that they should know by the end of April whether that would be a housing option. Has anybody heard anything about this?

I just got off the phone with Erin in housing and she told me they are still waiting on Dafina and trying to get that all figured out. Supposedly once they do finish the details Dafina should be fully furnished.
