Hello people,
Since the first round of interviews have begun for NYU, I was hoping that this thread might help us with more info about the interview itself, hotels (sharing a room perhaps), transportation, etc.

I am going on Sept 18th (Friday). Let me know if you are on the same day and would like to share a room or so 🙂 so that we have company in getting to and from the school.

If I were to give anyone my greatest tip for NYU, it would be the following.

- Save your stomach cuz they feed you the best friking food ever.

not sure if you were aware, but there's an entire "interview" section on this website. click on the main dental link at the top and under "resources" there's a link for interview feedback where you can learn a LOT for each school.
 
Hey Kneecole. Thanks for the heads up. I know about the interview feedback - but I am a klutz when it comes to public transport. I would LOVE to have company on my interview day so that I can split costs/not get lost, etc. Also, I already know that hotel prices are going to be nuts. So I wanted to open up a thread that would allow potential roommates to exchange contact info.

make sure you go site seeing! 🙂 go to the museums (there free) go on a cruise ride around the city (there cheap) ummm go shopping! but most of all, have fun and good luck on the interview! 🙂
 
should i be lucky enough to get an interview at NYU, i hope i can schedule it for a friday so that i can party it up later in the greatest city on earth!😀
 
i got a question about NYU.. do they have to give you an email saying that your application was completed b/4 you guys hear back anything from them for an interivew invite?..


B/c I have received an email from NYU saying that they needed my LOR's about a month ago.. and that was around the same time when it was sent out.. so am I going to expect another email from them saying that "they have recevied everything and will start reviewing my application" b/4 actually hearing from them about interivews??. .hope that makes sense.. thanks for your help

7.15

Our Admissions officers are currently compiling your application materials and will be in contact with you soon, via email, to confirm receipt of the items in your application. If any required materials are outstanding, you will be advised."

7.23
"Thank you for applying for admission to the New York University College of Dentistry, the leadership dental college of the 21st Century.

Please be advised that your application is complete."

I received my invite on 8.14

I would assume they would send out a Application Complete email before the invite. You can call and make sure that your LORs are in - If they are, it might speed up the process of getting you one of the App Comp letters --> getting an invite 3 weeks from then?

I have my interview ona friday.... question is: WHERE do i live? let me rephrase: which REASONABLY priced hotel do i live in =\ if I am extending my stay for a couple of more days...

thanks =D seems sweet 🙂 I went to NY when I was a kid, cannot wait to enjoy some of their nightlife though =D hehe, can you tell I just turned 21 :laugh:

me too! i called them last week and the admissions person was like, it's still early, they're still organizing apps...but if I don't hear anything this week I'll probably call again next Monday because they definitely have my LOR!! or they should unless it got lost in the mail 😱 They're the only school from my first batch that hasn't told me my app is complete...
 
To people who got interviews from NYU: what were your DAT scores?
 
Hey all! Question: How strict is NYU in enforcing the 100 required hours of shadowing?? Will they still grant you an interview if you have good stats and about 70 shadowing hours?

they require 100 hours? where did you get this info? I didn't know that!
 
if money is tight, you might want to consider staying at a hotel in one of the suburbs of nyc and just take public transportation to NYU... just an idea
 
yeah can someone please tell us what questions they ask in the interivew or how it is structured? thank you in advance!

Thanks for this post. It was really helpful. Now I just have to wait for that second e-mail! Judging from the dates, I am guessing you were in the first mailing batch?



Btw for anyone who is interested, I called today and they told me they have not gotten to processing the 7/24 mailing yet.

I was in the 8/24 mailing and they said they are processing mine currently. Are they lying to one of us? :laugh:
 
what is the best way to get from the airport to the hotel/inn we're staying? ie. taxi, shuttle or car service. I'm also concerned about how I will get to the school (Columbia/NYU) on interview day and the traffic I might face :/
I'm planning to stay in an hotel in New Jersey since the cost is cheaper.

Check out Hotel 17 -- 115ish for a night. You have to be at the interview at 8am (interview feedback says if you come around 730, they interview your right away). Best advice: stay somewhere closer (Hotel 17 is just a couple of blocks away).
No need to stress about traffic/transportation or wake up WAAAY early =\

hey everyone... if anyone has an interview the weekend of the 18th (friday). pm me asap if you wanna explore the city or something that weekend. I plan to fly in thursday (roam around bc my flight comes in at 3:25pm after checking in)... interview that friday the 18th... then I plan to go out and see the town on friday night and probably breakfast saturday morning before returning home in a flight at 1:30pm.

PM me please if you would like to join, so i dont get mugged all alone over there ahahha. Or if you want to just meet another fellow predent!

EDIT: I just booked the last available room at Hotel 17 (0.2miles from NYU) through Expedia on those three days, and it had to be a triple >.< ... even though it was a triple bed for 3 guests, it was still 142$ for Thursday (sept. 17) and 160$ for (sept 18) with checkout that saturday (sept. 19). Everything else around the area is $250+ a night over there on their NYU hotel listing. If anyone needs a place to stay especially if your interview ends up on those dates, I'd be interested to split the cost. Room is already paid for so pm me if you're interested!

glad the hotel worked out for you! i am crossing my fingers that you get to split it with someone though... then you can spend the extra cash on fun stuff.
WHCH btw, expect a pm once ur interview is done. i want a heads up on what not to miss in NY 🙂

aha thanks. ya hotel 17 is getting booked fast the guy told me. It's like the cheapest one in the area that isnt more than a mile away from the school and theres a direct busline about 1-2 blocks down the street straight to nyu from it. I just hope i can find someone to split this cost. Lol there's 2 other unoccuppied beds at this thing that will probably go to waste, yet still cheaper than those listed on the nyu website. Manhattan is such an expensive place aha.

NYU sent me an email saying my app was complete on August 25th.


Is that why I haven't heard from them yet?


I really want an NYU invite! Me so sad 😕

I was in the first batch i think... my stuff went out 7/2. Even then there's more to the apps than ur DAT / GPA btw if that's what you're getting at by posting yours lol.

Got my interview yesterday! I need to call tomorrow to lock down a day, but I'm aiming for either the 18th or the 25th as I would avoid missing any class. I'd love to meet up with people after for at least dinner as well, good times. I was also in the 7/2 mailing.

I'm on Sept 25 as well!! There weren't any rooms left at Hotel 17, so I'm staying at the Club Quarters Hotel. It's sort of pricey but it was the only thing I could find on such short notice!

If its the same as last year it was nothing to worry about, and takes approx 5 minutes. It basically just asked for your name, address, and the schools you applied to and if you interviewed with them.
 
Has anybody from the 7/24 mailing recieve invites from NYU yet?
 
For all of you non-New Yorkers I would suggest checking out Staten Island. That's where I live and honestly it's not a bad trip to the city and definitely a lot cheaper than Manhattan. There are a couple of hotels, there is a Hilton, the Staten Island Hotel, and I believe a new Hampton Inn if Im not mistaken. Anyways, the public transportation system is always on time and very reliable, and if you map out your day ahead of time you'll have no problem making to the city on time for your interview. Especially during rush hour traffic, there are extra ferry and train services. Staten Island is pretty boring otherwise, but there is always the possibilty. Hope this helps you guys out. Ill be in for my interview October 1st.

Alrighty. Anyone going to be in New York this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I have a fellow pre-dent sharing a room with me at Hotel 17. Our interview is both on Friday (18th). PM if you would like to hang out on Thursday or after interviews and see the city!
 
For those who just had the interview from NYU, can anyone explain the schedule of the day? And do you guys mind sharing how it went? :xf:
