Hi All,

I submitted my package to New York for clearance to take the EPPP. They have stated that they received it September 13th. I've been checking on my status every two weeks and it does not seem to have moved. Are other folks having a similar experience?

There can often be a delay with state psychology boards if they process applications via full board reviews. I don't know for certain if that is the case here, but seems likely. In the winter months a lot more applications come through and with holidays stacking up boards tend to meet less often. I would definitely stay on them by calling in monthly to check on your status but it may not get formally reviewed until January, sadly.

The NY board definitely has a delay, although that is longer than it took my app. Mine took maybe two months. You can request a status update through the website though and you can also just email them and ask. I would definitely reach out at this point.

When I reached out last week, they instructed me to check back in 6 weeks.

The NY board is absolutely a ****show this year. They range from unhelpful to outwardly hostile on the phone most of the time. I wish you the best of luck with it. I'll say that it will eventually happen, but the timeframe can be ridiculous.

Not sure if this is helpful, but when I applied in the spring, it took about five weeks before I received clearance to take the EPPP. Once the test was completed and the remaining documents were submitted (November), it took about a month to receive my license.

You are very lucky! I applied for NY license in July with my EPPP score transferred from a different state. They confirmed receipt of all documents in August. As to date, it is still under pending review. Yesterday I was told that the application is waiting to be assigned for education review before forwarding it to the board for final review and that they are still processing applications received before mine. :-(

What?? They've been telling me they are on August 27th for like 2 months.

The comparative education board has had my stuff since 9/13.

I plan on calling them again the 2nd week of January.

Thought to be precise...the comparative education board has had my stuff since 8/31. Yeah. Call them. I do every 3-4 weeks.

Have you heard anything from the board? They are currently working on applications received in the week of 09/07. I just called....thought to let you know.

When I called last week (around the same time as you) that's what I heard. I was planning on calling next week. I could DM you?

I have heard that while the requirements for licensure as a psychologist in New York are not that extensive in comparison to other states, it can take an extremely long time before you are fully licensed. I know someone who submitted all their materials and postdoc hours ahead of time. The individual finally received the license 8 months later. So I guess, it’s safe to plan on being fully licensed in NY within 18-24 months of officially starting the process?

I started my licensure process in NY at the beginning of Sept 2021. Submitted my paperwork, was cleared for the EPPP by Oct 2021. Took the exam April 2022, submitted my last form (postdoc hours) on June 30, 2022. Within 2 weeks, I got my final approval, and last week I received my license. Under a year, and the only limiting factor was waiting to accrue hours- couldn't submit the last form until I had 1760 hours, and it took til end of June to do so (started my full time post doc end of Aug 2021). No jurisprudence!

From start to finish, under a year and absolutely 0 problems. I have friends simultaneously applying in different states who have had more hoops to jump through, more paperwork, more supervisors to track down, and a jurisprudence. NY is about... $50-60 more expensive than other states, but I would pay that again easily to have such an easy process!

My advice is to submit things on the earlier side before the office gets bogged down by the halfway through postdoc year influx of applications. My friends who submitted later than me had a bit of delay time on getting things returned that I missed because I submitted my paperwork at the beginning of the postdoc year.

Wow! I wouldn’t have guessed that the process for licensure in NYS would be smooth. It’s good that no jurisprudence exam is required because in those exams can be harder than the EPPP in some states (e.g. Texas, California).

I want to apply for licensure in multiple states, but each state has different requirements for postdoc hours with some needing 1500-1800, others allowing applicants to count practicum hours, and some requiring up to 2,000 hours. I’m wondering if that might become an issue when applying concurrently.

Cross your fingers for me. They have everything but my postdoc hours which I plan on submitting this week!

For folks planning on submitting paperwork soon. Assuming my supervisor sent my postdoc hours when she said she did, hopefully the board received paperwork last week. Fingers crossed.

They are moving pretty quickly compared to other states.
Yeah. I wouldn't have a huge problem with if the only thing they were waiting on from me is my postdoc hour form (2 pages). They've already approved my education, internship hours, and I took and passed EPPP in April.
