A bit of a rant, but why do they always seem to have a need to wander over to the drop-off counter instead of staying at production and pick-up?

I like to keep every patient at the drop-off counter until all of their prescriptions have gone through insurance, and if it is rejected, I like to inform them at drop-off.

Yesterday, there was a guy who was pacing around behind some old lady I was helping, and behind him was another guy patiently waiting with a crying daughter, and then there was some other dude who just wandered to the front asking where the thermometers were.

So yeah, this tech does not have the training to enter into drop-off. So basically, he starts taking the prescriptions and writing down the date of birth and leaves them with me.

I'm still on the phone with the insurance company with this old lady, finally goes through.

So now, the prescriptions that this newb took are either rejecting for no current insurance or we don't have it in stock.

THIS IS FOR ALL NOOB TECHS! IF IT IS JUST YOU, ANOTHER TECH, AND THE PHARMACIST, JUST STAY AT PRODUCTION AND PICK-UP, IF THERE IS A LINE BUILDING UP AT DROP-OFF, IGNORE IT AND LET THE SENIOR TECH HANDLE IT!!!!

yessir! Anymore do's or dont's? *seriously*

Only partially blamed. How well was the tech trained? Where was the PIC?

Since you aren't a pharmacist, you are in no position to tell anyone what to do. Besides, do you think anyone here really cares what you think.

lol....i think he just wanted to vent~

Tech is only trained for pick-up and production. Has no idea how to enter prescriptions into the system and how to resolve rejections.

The pharmacist was telling me how the other day it was just him, and two newb techs, and all they did was come to him with scripts when the customers came by.

You would think that the district trainer would actually make sure they are competent enough to do drop-off work when they send us tech.

Hmm...
I am a newb and I was told to always take the hard copy and put dob and phone #. We always let production handle insurance issues.

Not so sure about that.

Over here, production is just counting pills, labeling prescription bottles, and putting stock bottles back, basically grunt work.

Drop-off is taking the prescription from the patient, checking to see if we have the medication in stock before starting anything, then entering it into the system, and make sure there are no insurance issues. If there's an insurance issue, drop-off handles it and informs patient about what is going on
