Hi Everyone,

I?m new to this thread, and I?m trying to learn as much as I can about becoming a DO. At this point, I plan to take the MCAT in April. I know for sure I will be applying to both DO and MD schools, and trust me I?m not applying to DO schools as safe schools. I respect DO just as I would respect a MD doctor. My PCP was a DO, and he was one of the best doctors I have had. The DO school I?m looking at is Nova. Nova is about a 20 min drive from where I live, and plus they are a good school. Does any know what they really look for?

Here is a little, background info about me. I?m a single mom, work full time, and I attend school full time. I have a 3.66 GPA, and I?m working on bringing that up. I also have a lot of EC, and two great LOR, and I know that I need a letter from a DO, which I have someone that is willing to do for me. I have not done any research, because there is not enough time in the day to do that plus everything I mentioned before. What advice can you offer?

Thanks is advance 😍

In my opinion, DO schools don't emphasize research experience. It is a valuable experience, but they like to see more involvement in clinical settings. I am research oriented, and every school that I interviewed wanted to know more about whether I worked in a clinical setting. Also try to do well on your MCAT. You shouldn't have any problem.

Don't worry too much about the research, just get yourself involved in a clinical setting. I wouldn't worry too much about bringing up a 3.6. Just get a good score on the MCAT, do a little DO shadowing, and you're set for interviews. :luck:
