Hello everyone!
I am new here but i love to see the support that this forum gives. I am currently a senior at UC Berkeley and i will be graduating in May this year. I have only recently become interested in pharmacy and, from reading the feedback that everyone gives in this forum, i'm becoming more and more aware of what the field is all about.

In any case, i dont know how many of you guys feel this way. But at the moment, i feel kinda lost. I have had absolutely no prior experience in the field but i am looking and contacting local drugstores for positions--which has so far proven rather difficult and unsuccessful. I'd like to take the PTCE in March but havent yet applied NOR even bought a book to study from. Do you guys think i should wait for the June exam or can i make it if i study really hard? Also, which study book would u recommend?

Thank you so much, any feedback is greatly appreciated!! 🙂

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm gunning for the March exam...I haven't applied but I plan to do so in the next few days. I just purchased a book by Reifman and it seems to be pretty good. (Certification Review for Pharmacy Technicians ) Lots of people that I've talked to around school (friends that work as techs that applied to pharm school this year) highly recommend it.

Something that I have found out as of recently that really helps when looking for pharmacy jobs is to explain your position...that you're planning to take the PTCE (and are currently studying for it) and that you are applying to pharmacy school in the coming year. I've found that it really gives you an edge...even if you dont necessarily get the job the manager may keep you in mind. Also, if you can spare the time before you graduate, contact hospital volunteer departments and explain your position. Many are very willing to help once they know that you're planning on entering the profession. Best of luck! :luck:

Hey b*rizzle, thank you so much for ur feedback.. it helps out a lot. You've actually motivated me to study for the March exam as well... i JUST bought a study book today, although i had to get another one since they didnt have the one you recommended. It is called "Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Review" Second edition by Delmar Learnings.. i dont know if you've heard of it, but im hoping it'll be good enough. It better be for 45 bucks!! 😎 Anyways, I went to Longs Drugs today about a clerk position and the manager seemed to like me. I hope to hear good news from him in a couple days. 🙂 Allright well, just wanted to say thanks again. Keep me posted on ur studying and Good LUCK!!

Not a problem! 😀 I was actually hired yesterday for a tech job at an Eckerd's and I'm so excited about it -- hopefully that will help the studying along a bit! The Delmar's book is good, as I understand, with the exception of some math errors that I read in reviews on Amazon.com. I checked it out last time I was in Barnes/Noble and it has a very through review of law, which I liked. I may have to chop off a leg so I can buy that book too! Keep me posted on your clerk job, it seems like it really is just a matter of luck when it comes to matching up w/ employers...I called this Eckerd's yesterday 'cause I'd seen a sign out front as I drove past, and the pharmacist encouraged me to come down and fill out an app...she wound up hiring me on the spot, which I def did not expect but I'll take it just the same! Being poor sucks 😛
