I'm just starting to look into various review books (BRS, High Yield, CMMRS etc.), and I'm wondering if it's necessary to buy the newest editions of these? If I can get them used for $5 or $10 but they are the previous edition, would you recommend that?

In my experience I can't see why it should matter as long as you aren't more than 1 or 2 editions old. The only exception off the top of my head would be Goljan's Rapid Review Pathology, where the new 2nd edition is far, far superior to the 1st edition.

I used the older editions of BRS Path and Phys -- 2nd edition for both. They served me just fine. There were probably a couple of areas that might have been further explained in newer editions because of new research developments, but nothing that was likely to be tested.

If you are particular about the condition of your books, though, it might be a good idea to buy them new. My used books had a ton of highlighting in them.
