What's the latest? Is DaVinci/robotic surgery passe or is it working up the food chain? What are some other cool innovations coming down the pipeline in surgery? I got so excited when I read about davinci that i took 2 courses in controls/systems, so throw some other bones this way, por favor 😀

You'd absolutely love our medical center if you like the DaVinci. The CT guy at our hospital was, I believe, the first US surgeon to do mitral valve surgery with the DaVinci. People come from all across the world here to be trained by Dr. Chitwood. I worked in comparative medicine with him for a little while and that darn robot is amazing!

The Davinci (like the intra-operative MRI) has really turned into a niche device though. Outside of some Cardiac cases & doing the cysto-ureathrostomy with laparoscopic prostates there really have few compelling advantages for a VERY expensive machine to buy & maintain. I've seen nothing that makes me think it will be widely used piece of equipment any time soon.
