Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some guidance on items I hope to include in an update. Namely, this would be my last post-interview update for my top choice program. Here's my two main questions:

1) I have been invited to present my work and research at a university technology conference for their undergraduate engineers. It's a couple of months away, but my top choice school will be making their admission decision before then. Can I include this presentation in the update? I would be able to include the name of the conference, date, and the section in which I will be presenting.

2) I work full time and my group has had the good fortune of being featured in various major news outlets, media publications, and a web documentary. Most of these are patient-centered stories about how our tech has made a difference in their care. I haven't included any links to these in my app as I wasn't sure it was appropriate, but we've just been featured again in an international magazine for our work. Are these sorts of things update-worthy, and if so may I include links to significant media articles/video in the update letter? Or is it more appropriate to only state the name of the media outlet?

Any advice is appreciated!

Any thoughts on including links in an update letter?
Maybe @Matthew9Thirtyfive ?

With a research publication it's easy to cite, but for news articles or news video I'm not sure if it's appropriate to paste a link in there.

Unfortunately, I think it really depends on the adcom. I started a podcast and included it in an update to a school I was on the WL for. I did not include a link, but did include the name and stuff. But I have interacted with that adcom multiple times in person and knew he would appreciate that sort of thing.

I personally think the first thing is update worthy, so since you have a great reason to update just tack the other thing on. I wouldn’t include a link though. But some of the adcoms here might give you better guidance on what they would want to see.

Thanks, @Matthew9Thirtyfive ! That was my hesitation as well. At one school, one of the speakers on interview day said the adcom would read over everything we sent and "every link," but that of course may not equate to "send us links"...

Maybe @Goro @gyngyn or @LizzyM have some suggestions?

I can google a link if I want it badly enough but I appreciate it being added as long as it is a professional accomplishment and not the wedding dance you choreographed for yourself and your bride (true story).

Oh boy...haha fair enough! Thanks!

Depends upon the content, but seems interesting and uncommon at that.
