Hello, I am wondering what would be the next step for me to gain admittance to an MD/Ph.D program.
I have a 3.93 cGPA and a 3.90 sGPA, and I am a junior. My MCAT score is 515 (130/127/127/131). Currently, I am working with one of my professors to start a research project at my school. I have also applied for summer research programs. I also have clinical volunteering with a hospice program.
Honestly, I want to be sure that I am competitive for an MD/Ph.D program, and I know that I need to work towards gaining research experience, but I was wondering what else I should do? Research is something I want to do, especially in the area of proteins.

You're looking really good so far. Do enough research to convince others that you know what you're in for, you've seen the ups and downs, and have a good understanding of why an MD/PhD will get you to what you want your career to look like. Some teaching/mentoring experience may also be good to have.

Thank you for your reply. I am/have been a tutor for literature, human A&P, organic chemistry, and chemistry. Would that count as teaching experience? I am also applying to be a freshmen mentor, would that count as tutoring experience?

I am definitely working on getting research experience, as I am lacking in that department. I was planning on taking a gap year, and my next question was should I work as a research technician or should I apply for a 1 year research masters?

Yes to both of your first questions, though I would classify the latter as leadership rather than teaching. And if it's a paid tech position vs. you paying for a masters, do a tech/RA position for sure.
