Hi everyone,

I'm a non-traditional student and graduated from college several years ago as a Neuroscience major. Although I was not pre-med back then, my major required me to take most of the requirements. I only have to complete two semesters of physics and second semester of gen chem.

I was wondering if anyone knows any colleges in NYC or maybe even Long Island that has night or weekend classes. Since I only need to take a few courses, I'm not eligible for most post-bac programs. In addition, I'm working a full time job that I do not want to give up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks 🙂

I think people would be better able to help you if you let us know if you're looking to take the courses at a community college or at a 4 year university? If you're looking at taking classes at a community college, I can name a few that offer evening or weekend classes. Borough of Manhattan Community College, offers weekend and evening science classes, however, I've only seen the general chemistry and anatomy/physiology classes offered on the weekend. Suffolk Community College has evening science classes. Medgar Evers College offers many of their science courses in the evenings and the weekends as well. You can also do some more research on your own, I've provided the link to the CUNY course schedule https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu/psp...=false&IgnoreParamTempl=FolderPath%2cIsFolder

It's a unified system so they basically have all of the CUNY schools listed and you can look at their virtual course schedules. Just so you know, some medical schools don't consider applicants that have completed their prerequisites at community college. I remember when I was conducting research on schools and found out that both Tufts and SUNY Downstate had stated specifically on their websites that no community college science prerequisites would be accepted. If I wanted to apply, I would have to retake the courses at a four year institution. So if you're planning on going the community college route, research the med schools that you're interested in applying to and make sure that they have no such policy in place.

Well I'm from Long Island and if you're not planning on spending a lot of money just to take a few courses you might want to just attend maybe Nassau Community College or Suffolk. (though I prefer NCC, it isn't completely in the middle of nowhere) and it's a nice campus with a great faculty. Goodluck!
