Nightguard
Started by wingy
There can be a wide fluctuation. At the office I work at it costs $1,250, and other places its around $500.

Dang, is that for just a nightguard or some more involved therapy like NTI?
Oh, my! I got one a few years ago and paid about $250. I thought that was ridiculously expensive.
Mine was $300. That was absolutely insane because it was supposed to go on insurance, but it didn't. Had I known that, I would have just purchased a sports mouthguard, molded it myself and trimmed it for comfort. That would take 10 minutes and about $5. I got screwed.....and to make things worse, it has negatively affected the alignment of my bottom teeth just enough to screw up my occlusion.
My office they're roughly $240. Here's the kicker, my lab tech charges me just over $25 to make them, then figure around $10 in materials and a few more bucks to pay my assistant, and you can see that they're a good source of income.
As for the $1250 chrage mentioned earlier, if I charges that price I'd feel that I'd have to personally insert them in my patient's mouth each night (especially if it was a cute feamle patient 😉 😀 )

If she was a cute female patient, are you sure the nightguard is the only thing that you want to personally insert?! 😀
Sorry, just couldn't help it

Exactly. The Lab charges 25$. This is a very simple thing to make and does not require a dentist. Do what I did and buy it directly from the lab.

I shouldn't complain about dentists overcharging, because physicians do the same, but this is an 'unregulated' procedure so you can bypass the dentist.

Lets see, my wife's a cute female........
she uses a nightguard.......
I've been known to ins 😱 😀
I'll just leave the rest of this one alone! LOL! 😉
The $260 the patient paid is not BUYING a night guard..
THe dentist have to adjust the guard to the EXTACT point where the occlution is perfectly balanced.....and Re-Eval in 3 day, 1 wk, and 2 wk. to determine if further adjustment needed....
Patient is not BUYING PRODUCT but paying for our service. That's why a full gold crown is $800+ and not $100.
Remember, Dentist are professionals, Dentist are not salesperson

Damn straight 👍
about a grand is right if theyre going to make it out of hard acrylic and provide immediate disclusion, anterior guidance etc. otherwise pay 300 bucks and get one in the mail you ll chew threw in a few months if you ever can wear it. Best way get a helpful resident to show you how to make one at school.Supernumerary said:Dang, is that for just a nightguard or some more involved therapy like NTI?
KMF said:I think that if an orthodontist makes it for you, it can act as a retainer as well. Unlike a mouthguard used in sports, a nightguard will keep your alignment and bite correct. I've heard of orthodontists charging around $400 for it.
ive heard prosthodontists charging 1000-1200
