NIH IRTA switching labs question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys,
Does any current IRTA have experience switching to another lab within NIH? What was the process like.
thanks

I have not, but I know several who have. Your best bet would be talking to your lab chief. It's far easier to switch to another within your same division or at least within your institute.

May I inquire why? If it's a funding issue, it should not be an issue to switch. If you just don't like the lab than it's going to be more difficult.

Hey Dahliadahlia,

There is a process to be able to do it. However, your reasons usually have to be good. (i.g. if you are being mistreated, or there is a conflict of interest). Usually they do not entertain moving labs if you're just interested in another area. PM me the name of your institute if you think you should still move labs and I can give you some more info on what I think you should do.
