Your thoughts? Does this mean EM gets more grant money now to fund research?

I think it's kinda cool. Now only if they started funding some prehospital research. 😉

This is really good news, especially for academic EM docs and departments.

I don't mean to sound cynical; the increased funding is a welcome thing for patients, too. Perhaps this will increase the chances that a trial will get funded that will conclusively answer the question of whether intubating septic patients with etomidate is marginally better or worse than intubating them with some other agent.

My hope, though, is that some of this research will go toward the really large bang-for-buck stuff, namely public health, injury prevention, and better management of chronic disease.

That's the stuff that'll help ED patients more than anything else, by far.
