Nike curfew frames DFV

Sorry for another loupe question, but i did a search and nothing.

I'm either going to get the DFV 3.5X reg or EF, but I can't decide between the "buddy holly's" and the curfew's. I know the buddy holly's are more durable, but the curfews are lighter and much more comfortable. They also aren't the sport plastic frames, so I wouldn't think that they would fall apart. Does anyone have these/know someone who has them?

I have the DFV's 3.5x in-lens with the Nike frames and I like them a lot. The one complaint I do have is that the attachment for the headlight, if you got it, is pretty awkward and can kind of poke your forehead and the light can get hot. Maybe my head is just funny shaped, but try to try on that except combo if a rep comes to your school. Good luck.

I've got 3.5 SF with the Curfew, and they're great. As far as the light goes, my rep told me that the universal mount actually works much better than the one that is marked "Curfew" because it's actually the same as the Yoeman frames, and thus doesn't fit quite right - so she sent me the universal mount and I don't have any issues with it.

I'd say to only go with the Yoeman if you get the EF, because the weirdness of the big EF lenses counteracts the weirdness of the giant frames. I've got a friend who's got that setup and it doesn't actually look too bad.

PS. If you don't need a prescription built in, I'd really take a second look at the Nike plastic frames, I wish I could have had them because of how well they stick to your head. They're pretty sturdy too, and if worse comes to worse, its only $100 to replace the entire frame - but I don't expect that to happen unless you step on it.

With my SF I can still see more or less half an arch - roughly from 2nd molar to central if I'm looking at a premolar, that's plenty for me. If I need to see the entire arch, I'll look over the top. I also didn't like the weight of the EF, or how they looked, on top of the extra $500-600.

If you've got the cash, and don't mind the weight, by all means get them, they're great products.

Be sure to get a light as well though, as the EF lenses also get more dim.

I guess then, is it necessary to be able to see an entire arch all day? I dont mind the weight of EF. Im just trying to justify why it is superior to standard field?! Or what makes them that much better?

Do you think DFV still has the best SF 3.5 oculars?

Being able to see more is better I suppose, but like I said, it's not without the tradeoffs. Just try them both on, and see which you like better.

Also, as the DFV rep even told me, more or less all of the loupes optics are more or less the same, different companies just have slightly different ways of doing things, such as the angle of the telescope, height of the placement of the telescope, etc. One thing to note, DFV has the cheapest 3.5's, it's only like 80 bucks more than the 2.5, compared to like 200 bucks more for some of the other companies.

Most importantly, just pick what you like - any company you go with will get you a quality set of loupes.

For me, I really like my loupes, the frames, the light - the whole package. Also, one other thing that made me go with DFV was that the rep was much less pushy, and laid out everything plain and simple. Plus, the customer service so far has been fantastic. Initially the telescopes weren't aligned properly (I'm never good at those silly optic tests they use, so it was probably my fault), and I called up my rep, she came in within 2 days, and I had them back in just over a week, and they're perfect.

I was sold on a pair of Oakleys from Surgitel but after looking at the Buddy Hollys again I felt like they were very comfortable and would hold up the best. I also like having my name on the side so they don't get mixed up with anyone else's.

What difference would that be?? While Im thinking about it, have you been to orascoptic's website lately. I think they changed their numbering system to more standard notation like everyone else. So if thats the case which hi-res plus loupe would be comparable to the 3.5 ef in terms of depth of field? (or whatever word it is to say how much you can see)

I know the Nike frames is very light but is it durable? I want to have a 3.5EF but it's heavy, will the frames support the weight?

the 4.5s are quite heavy, i believe second heaviest to zeiss. The weight of it dont bother me, but then again i ve only had it for a while. Lets hope i dont get any crazy neck probs in 10 years.

IF you havent done any preps (drilling), it might take you a while to get adjusted to the 4.5s or 3.5s. Some of my classmates can't stand loupes at all (ie: they bought theirs but gets heaches, dizziness from them). It varies from person to person.

I adjusted to mine quite well, and i m loving it so far

4.5ef sees the same amount of teeth as 3.5sf. 3.5ef sees the same amount of teeth as 2.5sf. Only differences between the efs and sfs are the magnification levels and field of depth.

Get the ef. or you can get the sf and then get another thats ef 😛

I am pretty sure that Ill go with EF. I just am trying to figure out why do people think it is important to be able to see the entire arch? (like you can in 2.5sf or 3.5ef). Don't you only really need to see a couple of teeth on each side?

i too was debtaing between the 3.5ef vs 4.5ef, but caved in for 4.5ef after a few dentists highly recommended the 4.5efs. Many also loved their 3.5efs. It was a tough decision. After using 4.5s for a while, i think a 4.0xef would be best for me if dfv made one.

I would seriously consider looking at Lumadent. From the reviews i have seen and talked to a few people that have one. They absolutely love it. Don sells a great product and its much cheaper than most others. If you are getting a student discount, the Mini light is still a little more expensive than the lumadent and I think cheaper than the rest.

Yeah i think i can get the mini light for 400 extra with my loupes. Featherlight would run 500 with the filter with this bulk order they are offering. The lumadent was right at 365 and 333 if we get a bulk order going. It may be easiest to get a DFV light since im getting their loupes and the customer service aspect of it all. i dont know
