My insurance announced me that I am not insured for esophagus damage with a bougie placement for Nissen...
And I do it - per surgeon request.
Any insights?

Was this a blanket announcement sent out to all anesthesiologists insured by this company, or in response to an inquiry? Can I assume you're not charging for the placement of the device separately from the anesthesia bill?

Nope - I am at the annual insurance "class" (keep the cost lower...) and one of my colleagues asked about the coverage for the device placed for bariatric surgery - the answer was that this is out of the practice of anesthesiology, and the same goes for the bougie...

what carrier if I may ask?

Then who is supposed to place it and will the insurance company cover you when they extubate the difficult airway morbidly obese bariatric patient?

The surgeon is responsible to place them.
This "procedure" is not practice of anesthesia.
To extubate - it is our job.
