Hi, I was hoping someone can help me... i did a search but i couldnt find any good info ...i was wondering what are the effects of nitrous oxide on a baby? (nerve damage? ) for adults is it often just ringing in the ear, vomitting and headaches?

Nothing, but I'm can't see when you would give an infant N20. If they really had decay that needed treatment nitrous is not going to make them cooperative. It will either be an ART if it's a limited amount, a hold-n-go or GA in the OR.

Nitrous is probably the safest sedative in dentistry. All harmful effects are due to long term use. There is more risk to the dentist and staff if they don't have the proper scavenging system.

Less than 5% of kids experience nausea or vomiting with N20, and when it happens it's usually when it's left on high %s (40%+) for a significant length of time (3o mins +).
