No acceptances..anyone else in same boat?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
same boat...except i have had six interviews...5 pre dec, 1 three days ago...

What are your stats and DAT if you don't mind me asking?

3 pre-dec interviews. 1 rejection, 1 wait-list, 1 unknown. Losing hope also and planning for next cycle....

What are your stats and DAT if you don't mind me asking?

For me: 20/21/21 GPA 3.56 Sci. GPA 3.5 (Inducted into a math honors society)

Hundreds of hours of shadowing (250ish 6 dentist/specialist), hundreds of hours of volunteer work (700-800), 4 research projects

just a little bit about me in numbers...

That's a pretty strong application...

So, I've been on 3 interviews (all pre-dec) and haven't had one acceptance. I am losing hope VERY fast. Anyone else in the same boat?

OP do you mind briefly sharing you stats? GPA, DAT, etc? any particular section really low?

EDIT: wow i seriously misread this thread...

bhagan, that looks like a pretty solid application to me, did you have any section that was significantly lower than the rest?

Also, when you say you have no acceptances, does that mean you were rejected/waitlisted at all the places or just havent heard back yet? If you havent heard back yet, just hang tight, as hard as it sounds. youre definitely a qualified applicant and assuming you dont completely blow the interviews, Id be very surprised if you didnt get any acceptances

@bhagan, I remember you were waiting on Pittsburgh? I'd definitely recommend contacting them -- and/or any other school you'd really like to attend. You have a very strong application, and I'm sure if you convince them that you're serious about their school, they'll reconsider.

I was waitlisted at Pitts for Dec. 1st, and was accepted this week after expressing my interest. I don't know if that's the reason for my acceptance. But it really wouldn't hurt.

Good luck!

Yeah... your app looks pretty solid from what you've told us, unless you have a personality of a brick...

I was actually thinking about this the other day. Lets say hypothetically someone applied with a somewhat competitive application (maybe a bit stronger than than the previous years matriculant average) but actually did have a very undesirable personality for a healthcare professional (this isnt directed towards anyone in this thread, it just reminded me of it), do you think that person would be waitlisted due to the combined effect of the strength of their application and poor interview performance, or rejected based solely on their interview and the fact that the school would never want that person to have the opportunity to practice whatever, which they may if placed on a waitlist.

I remember when my brother was applying to medical school, the thing was (and I dont know if this is true, just what he told me), if you got rejected it means you did really bad on the interview but if you got waitlisted, you interviewed acceptably, but just werent competitive enough on paper at that time to be offered an acceptance.

If you had 5 pre dec interviews and no word back at this point, I strongly suggest that you do a self assessment of your interviewing skills.
Perhaps, you should videotape yourself answering questions and or do mock interviews with your peers so that you can get feedback on what you are doing wrong/ need to improve on.

Goodluck

I am not international...and I feel that I do well.at the interviews, they are very conversational...no awkward moments. last year I applied late, one interview out of state at iowa, was high in the waitlist but no cigar. I just think I am like the worlds best second choice (in the dental schools eyes). They don't flat out reject me, they just keep me hanging...well there is not.much I can do at this point except wait and express my continued interest to schools. I am crossing my fingers, hoping for second round acceptances 🙂

Hi, don't lose hope, I heard people get in a few weeks before school starts, there's at least 2 more big acceptance rounds coming. Did you apply to expensive OOS privates schools and new schools? best of luck

Like I said, worlds best second choice...got into three schools today! Thanks for the words of wisdom🙂

Op: sorry for jacking your thread....but keep your head up...the waiting.sucks, but pays off...

3 pre dec. 2 post dec.

1 waitlist, 2 rejection. Still waiting on the post

bhagen, do you mind sharing which three schools you got into?
I'm just wondering if Marquette's one of them.
Thank you

This boat is getting heavy... hope there's a rescue boat coming soon.

I have an interview at MWU-IL soon, and it may be my only shot this cycle! Any words of wisdom?! I would appreciate ANY advice!

If you look at the interview feedback, there are some under the MW-AZ heading. They are labeled with "(MW-IL)".

It's MMI format and very easy. You start out answering the question, and they have a lot of follow-up discussion topics. It was THE least stressful of my interviews. Be prepared for a long (for me, one and a half hour) waiting period where you sit in a room and chat with you fellow interviewees. Also, the mini-interviews do not include a break so use the restroom if you need to before hand.

I got in, so as of now it's my safety school. Maybe I'll see you there. Good luck.

You can PM me if you have any questions. I've developed an nasty habit of coming on here during work and between classes, so I'll probably get it pretty fast.

I am also in the same boat, 5 interviews but no acceptances. I think I'm also the world's best second choice applicant. 20/18/21 GPA's 3.6/3.3 science with a lot of volunteer/shadowing experience and a Masters in Physiology. I am a third year applicant so I am really hoping I won't have to apply again. I have interviewed at Midwestern AZ, ASDOH, UNLV, LEECOM, and NYU. Does anyone have any advice about what I can do at this point to tip the scales?

This boat sucks. I applied to 16 schools, 5 rejections, 1 interview, and waitlisted. Hearing how many times you guys have applied to be in this boat still really worries me 🙁 le sigh

It's not as bad as it sounds, but it does get a little frustrating sometimes. It will all be worth it to be a dentist. I'm confident something will work out. Keep trying
