For those who are currently out of school and still have no acceptances, how are you going to improve your application if you are reapplying for the next cycle?

I am on the waitlist but I'm looking to reapply in case I don't get accepted. Also, I recently applied and got accepted to a dental hygiene program which starts next month. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

if your grades are low, take some post bacc courses. see if you can be involved in some research. go on a humanitarian mission. find ways to end hunger. save the world...start recycling.

etc. etc.

Please don't waste your money on a hygiene program. I almost did, but ended up just reapplying and getting in this year. Put your money towards a postbac.

Thanks for the advice! My BCP GPA was 3.62, science GPA was 3.56, and total was 3.52. As for my Canadian DAT scores:

RC 21
Bio 21
Chem 21
TS 21
AA 21
PAT 19
MDT 26 (I know the carving doesn't matter, but I'm just including it anyhow)

Any other suggestions?

What about your extracurriculars and leadership experience? How many schools did you apply to? I think your numbers are good enough to get into school.

When did you submit the application? Your gpa and dat scores are high enough to be accepted I think!

- shadowed 3 general dentists for 120 hours
- volunteered at a science centre for 300 hours, blood donation clinic for 130 hours, and neonatal clinic for 50 hours
- 210 hours of research
- microbiology TA for 60 hours

I guess I should open up and explain my situation.

Last year, I got waitlisted at NYUCD in February. A week before school started, I was actually notified about an available seat, but I was on vacation! I didn't had access to the internet at the time. I didn’t check my email until 3 days before school started, and by then, it was already too late! 🙁

For this application cycle, I reapplied in mid-June (before I was even notified about an available seat at NYUCD), in case I don't get accepted off the waitlist. Thinking I might have a chance for this cycle, I reapplied with pretty much the same credentials. I chose to work full-time to save some money for dental school, and as some of you mentioned, I think my stats are decent so I never went back to school. HOWEVER, I didn't even get an interview invitation from NYUCD. In fact, I got my rejection letter in the mail in February 🙁 They said I was competing with a different cohort of applicants. I do plan to reapply to NYUCD next cycle (if I do not get accepted off the waitlist elsewhere), so I asked what I can do to improve my application. I was told that they do not provide suggestions for those who they didn't interview.....

It was quite an unfortunate event. I saw someone on here who got interviewed last cycle at another dental school, didn't get accepted, reapplied, and got accepted this cycle even WITHOUT an interview! I also know someone who got accepted last application cycle but was able to defer their acceptance. Why can't this happen to me?

You have a pretty damn good application. I think if you apply to 15 schools you would for sure get in. No need to take more classes unless you have terrible LORs and need to meet new professors. If you want US schools maybe take the US DAT, I don't know what the difference is. Also, Detroit Mercy takes a lot of Canadians, did you apply there?

I'm waitlisted at UDM!
