(not sure about the title, I couldn't decide what to call this)

I'm in my sophomore year at the University of Oklahoma, and I'm thinking it's a little early, but I want to know what kinds of schools I should be looking at applying to. I have finished most of my prerequisite classes in my first few semesters, and am looking at taking pretty light semesters for the remainder of college (12-14 hours). This semester, I'm taking Intro to MBio, MBio Lab Genetics, Experiencing Music, and Cold War Science.

F08: OChem I, DiffEQ, Zoology, EXPO (english II), spanish convo
S09: OChem II, OChem Lab, Phys I, Zoo Lab, Psych, spanish comp
F09: CellBio, Phys II, Phys Lab I, II., perspectives (honors writing), medical spanish

I have a 3.94 (B in CellBio agggh), and am thinking about taking the MCAT this summer so I can spend next spring in Spain. I took a free practice MCAT from Kaplan with my friends last year and got a 25, not sure how I would score after studying though, or with a real test and intense pressure and whatnot. I think after buckling down, I could get a 32+

As far as EC's, I volunteer at a free clinic, where I usually take vitals, (Ht, Wt, BP, etc.), deskwork, and sometimes practice phlebotomy. However, there are so many volunteers that I don't think the doctor even knows my name. :/ I've shadowed a family practice, urologist, ER, and cardiologist. I am in a service fraternity, and have served on executive committee. I also ran for and got a seat in student congress for this year. I also work at CVS as a pharmtech (help or hurt?) and will take a campus job this semester in the Nat'l merit office (Give tours to perspectives and take them to a free lunch at the caf 👍 )

I'm trying to decide where to look. I've always dreamed of going to top schools, but I'm not sure what I need to do to get in. I've heard that they like research experience, but I'm not too interested in being someone's lab slave... I'll have too look into what the profs at my school are researching I guess.

So, I have a few questions:
1) I haven't retaken English I, Government, US History, Chem I/II, Calc I/II, or Spanish I/II/III/IV. I've heard that I can use AP credit, can't use AP credit, can only use for non-science, etc. Can I use the credit? (mostly concerned about Chem because I don't want to go back and retake it!!)

2) What tier schools should I be looking at? I def. will apply to my state schools (OU and OSU DO). Would I be able to go to big names (stanford, washU?)

3) How vital is Research to my app?

ALSO: I am asian (maybe relevant), and I party most, if not every weekend 😛 (relevant only so I don't appear to be such a nerd)

Hard to say what tier without a MCAT...but at least middle tier down...

For bigger name schools, you NEED research and significant clinical ECs and other specials....

you need to start building them more....

GPA is great!!

Asian is probably gonna hurt you since you are a smart Asian kid and more is expected from you.....😛

AP credit dont know about...I wasnt smart enough to take any...

You can find out information about how AP classes are accepted at the AAMC and AMCAS websites. Trust them over these forums. Worst case: call/email the schools you are interested in. A little leg-work goes a long way.
