so I just found out that I did not get credit in a pass/fail French course (where "failing" is a C- or lower). That definitely will go on my transcript and I will have to take the course again next semester. How bad is that for me? Should I attempt to explain it in my PS or wait for an interview situation to bring up the reasons if they ask? Thanks

Wait for the interview if they bring it up. There's not enough room in a PS to spend time talking about one class.

This is what I call a zit. Do not call attention to the zit, use the PS to play up your strong points and hope that the adcom does not notice that zit.
