No Dental School in Arkansas

I was wondering if there was anyone else from Arkansas that will apply within the next year or two? If so, where are you from and where are you going to apply? I'm asking because I can't decide where my best chances for being accepted will be? I have a decent GPA (3.5-3.6) and will be taking the DAT this summer, tons of EC (fraternity, biology club officer, research honor society, many volunteer & shadow hours, and even the chair of a state board), and I take no less than 17 hours a semester.....a little weak in chemistry's but a near 4.0 in Biology.....No idea how i stack up with everyone else...😕

I know that when I interviewed at Baylor last year, one of the students that ate lunch with us was from Arkansas.

Yeah, Baylor holds 2 spots for Arkansas applicants and 2 spots for New Mexico applicants.

I think that UMKC is also partial towards Arkansas applicants.

Check Alabama. Think they also have spots for Ark residents

Yea, Memphis takes 18, UMKC takes 4 i think, LSU takes 4, but i didn't realize Baylor had spots for us too though. I've been in contact with LSU and they said that the D schools didn't have to take Arkansas applicants if they weren't qualified (which happened bc LSU didn't take any ark residents last year). Dr. Coleman at Memphis said that an Ark resident needs to score 20s on the DAT to be considered a strong applicant for them, but then again he said that they wouldn't accept Mississippi residents but I know a Mississippi Res going there?? I just want in lol.

I think you've kinda ansered your own question. UT-Memphis is the easiest school to enter only becasue they reserve the largest amount of spots for arkansas residents (18). There are a total of 30 spots open for AR residents in all. see this link with the arkansas dept of higher education.

cool deal, that was exactly what I was looking for.....good luck at LSU! Thats the school I want to end up at (I live 20 miles away from the La\Ar stateline)...If i don't get into school in 09 when i graduate then i'll probably just move to La to become a resident....but anyways, I hope you enjoy it!

At least you are an US citizen. International kids have an even tougher times.

By the way, your GPA is nice. Make sure you do well on the DAT and you should be fine. 🙂

UMKC has a contract with the state of AR. UMKC only accepts students from KS, MO, AR, NM, HI.
