With the DO grade replacement, I was at a 3.2-3.3 range and have completed my MCAT with a 507 this year (3rd attempt; previous attempts were 18 & 490). But now, I'll have a sub 3.0 GPA which includes all my retakes. Do I stand a chance applying to DO schools with this new grade replacement policy change? Any schools in particular I should be looking at this forthcoming cycle?

PCOM and AZCON are still honoring grade replacement.

Outside of that, I think that you'll be better off doing a DIY post-bac or SMP. Read this:

Goro’s advice for DO applicants in the absence of grade replacement

I say apply to the schools Goro mentioned above and the newer schools.

How were you able to have a big jump from 490 to 507? Curious as to what changed!

I really took a step back and thought about whether or not I even wanted to pursue medicine and my reasons for going into the field. Once I decided this field was surely for me, I retook the mcat after 2 months of prep. It came down to constantly working hard throughout the weeks.

You will need to contact the schools and find out exactly what they will do. The MCAT score is fine for both.

Would these schools recalculate the GPA themselves? And is the mcat score sufficient for a DO acceptance?

Man I swear I just read this on SDN the other day.. But I think AZCOM will recaucluate your grade if you have a 507 MCAT (it maye have been 509) and you send them an email requesting a recalculation.. Someone on here literally just posted the quote but unfortunately I couldnt find it for you while I'm procrastinating finishing this lab report. I'm sure you could track it down though.

I assume PCOM is somehow just going to recalculate grades but I would imagine they won't do it for apps that otherwise may not have been competitive. With your mcat and other experiences you should be good there if I'm correct in that assumption.

If I were you I would apply to those two, even some of the newer schools if any of them interest you, and several SMP programs. It's awesome that PCOM and AZCOM are still honoring grade replacement to a degree but hedging your bets on getting into either is just too risky.

Good luck!

It says it right on AZCOM's website.
