Hi all,

Right now we're in october and I still don't have any interview invites. I've already been rejected from nova, colarado, and midwetern az. I still have 11 schools left so I was wondering are post december interviews still a possibility? My GPA was a 3.5 but DAT was an 18 overall which is why I don't have any interviews. Also, in my rejection letter I was invited to apply to denver colorado post bach program, anyone have any info about this program? I looked online but could find little about people who've attended it or how it works.

Thank you guys!

Retake the DAT!
and apply to more schools that are private and will give you a chance.
There is still time.

Ok thank you! If I were to retake it lets say January or february and update my app with the new score would that count for this year or would i have to reapply again next year?

I think it depends on the schools. Some review applications until the very end while some close interviews around Feb. Were there any low scores on an individual section? I think since you already took the DAT, retaking it in a month and focusing hard on that particular section might be more helpful than taking it in Jan/Feb. At that point maybe just plan to take it in April?

tbh its still really early in the cycle, its just october 15th and depending on which schools you applied to and where youre from you still have a shot at an interview.

When did you submit your application and supplementals?

Anything after December is for next year. If you take it Jan or Feb, there is no way schools are going to look at that.

What I recommended to someone in a similar situation to you is to wait until January. If you haven't heard back about interviews by then, then it's time to study for the DAT and take it prior to June 2020. You need to apply day 1 next cycle with an improved DAT score averaging 20 overall and in the sciences. If you can do this and apply to 15 schools including all of the lower stat private schools then you'll be guaranteed at least a handful of interviews. Do NOT apply to schools that do not take people from your state of residency. Waste of money and time.

They were all scattered most of them either end of July or mid august

If it makes you feel any better, I have a 3.86 cum GPA, 3.81 Science, 20AA 20TS DAT, applied the same time as you, and also have not received any invites yet. I think people that applied as late as we did should expect things in November to Post-Dec.

I'm not too worried personally because to me, it feels like SDN just makes pre-dec. everything seem much more important than it really is. As long as you haven't been rejected, you're still in the game!

Lots of people that have been accepted had their interviews post-December. Best thing to do at this time is just be patient and try to enjoy the holidays in my opinion.

How many credits of masters do you have?
If you have more than 20, you should be getting interviews

We have similar stats (in fact your gpa is higher than mine) and I’ve received three interviews. I would say just be patient and not throw in the towel till even next year April. I’ve heard many schools give interviews till next year or until the class is completely full! Patience is key ☺️

Omg thank you for giving me hope! Honestly this whole thing is so stressful. All my friends are moving onto bigger things and I’m so proud of them but I just can’t help it but feel stuck. All I can do is pray and hope for the best

I totally agree! It’s just a long waiting game for now

I have a similar DAT score, but lower GPA and have one interview! Just keep your head up, your time will come 🙂

This day last year I applied to 23 schools lol and got all my interviews post December except for one. Do not lose hope. You'll hear from them eventually, but my point is that you can actually add some schools if you are worried... I then added three later on and one of them invited me after 3 days from my submission. So, I think you still have chance. Best of luck

Hey! In the same boat here lol similar gpa and dat scores. Applied to 10 only thing I’ve heard back is a rejection from nova.. so patiently waiting on the other 9...:dead:

Hey guys so far I still have no invites. At this point im praying i get a post december invite or get on a waitlist somewhere. I still haven't heard anything from the 11 schools i applied to. Should this make me hopeful or is that just stupid? Lmao. Planning on applying to master programs as soon as the applications open.

1 interview with a 24 AA?

Yeah, I guess there’s something fundamentally wrong with me/no connections? I’ve spoken with several people from various admissions boards and given my complete application to a few dentists I’ve shadowed and have been told I’m a great candidate, shouldn’t have any problems getting in, etc etc etc... then one of my closest friends (current dentist) told me maybe my high DAT is a bit off putting for a lot of schools because they assume I get in somewhere else, and/or it’s harder because I’m a white male. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure why I haven’t gotten many bites. I’ve met with advisors to go over my application and have tried to contact the few rejections, but they don’t offer great feedback on why I got rejected. The only real thing that has been mentioned to me is that I have a ton of research experience, but it’s not dental research.

It’s a bit discouraging when dentists and admissions people say.. you’ll get in, or you’re a great candidate, then I get literally nothing positive.

That is insane.

Honestly, it simply might be that you just need to apply again.

Add more dental stuff before the next cycle. And to be quite frank, your 24 DAT isn’t thaaat impressive given that there’s plenty of ppl who also have similar high DAT scores. Don’t rely on it alone.

I mean, just some of the highlights I guess. 24 DAT(no score under 21) is just one part of it, where most schools average is between 19-21. Graduate degree, published papers, foreign service trips for extended time periods, experience working as a dental assistant. I actually do have dental research with a dental lab in the area, but it was stopped due to funding. I figured with applying to 16 schools that aren’t what I consider reach schools would give me a pretty decent chance at acceptance. Maybe my lack of a social media presence isn’t giving committees enough interest to bring me in - it could be a bunch of weird stuff. Maybe my identity was stolen and I have a felony or something that I’m completely unaware of, but no school that’s rejected me has given me a very good response as to why.

Lots of people have excellent DATs and don't get in, lots of white males get in as well. What's your undergrad GPA? Do you come off "unlike-able" in your applications/ interviews?

social media presence has nothing to do with it...

Are your letter recs good/submitted properly?
One of my friends ended up being considered 'late' because as a reapplicant, her dentist LOR didn't change the date for her reapplication cycle

Don’t get me wrong—your 24 dat is indeed impressive—I’m just saying in the large scope of things there are a lot of others who also get that high score.

Like I said, I think you might just need to apply again and prob go for reach schools or a wide range of schools this time and I agree with rectangle, make sure your LORs are good
