I received a few (4) interview invites almost 2 months ago and since then have received none! I applied to 18 schools and received interviews from some great schools but nothing from middle-tier or safety schools.

Is anyone else in the same boat?

I know schools often interview until February but when do they stop sending out interview invitations? One of my invitations in September was for an interview in JANUARY.

Freaking out!

i haven't gotten an invite in about 1.5 months either. i think invitations have just slowed down a lot since the major flood late in the summer. hopefully they'll look over apps again once they've gone through everyone's once and some more interviews will come your way🙂

I applied to 37 schools. I was AMCAS-verified first week of September, received 2 in-state interview invites within days, and have been silent since mid-September. Three rejections so far, silence everywhere else!!

you were verified first week of september though... the cycle just started for you, some people have been verified since first week of june and have been waiting for their invite(s)

This is fairly common, I think. I had 4 in August, 2 in September, and my last invite in early October, my last interview a week ago...I have no more interviews lined up, but I am not too unhappy about it since I have an acceptance.

But I have to admit that I thought there would be a steadier flow...really a little surprised by the deafening silence, waiting on about 7 more schools to poop or get off the pot.

But that is also a perfect example of why it is important to apply EARLY...I am so glad I did.

yup me too. i think it gives you a lot more freedom with the 6-9 months before med school (planning finances/changing jobs/taking a vacation) and what not

I was AMCAS verified in July.

Well, no matter what people on SDN want to argue, 'early' is June, and I like many others submitted on the first day AMCAS opened...I started getting a trickle of secondaries in late June, and a rush of them in the 1st week or so of July...I sent those in ASAP, and I submitted every secondary I was to do by July 24 IIRC...so there is a good chance that I was complete at a bunch of schools before you got verified...I got my interview invite to UVA on Aug 3, accepted Oct 17...

It makes a huge difference, I am convinced, especially at rolling schools.

No kidding.

My stress level is down to zero. I am looking at taking at least one big trip, maybe two.

I won't hit a lick until I start med school...

Thanks guys! Good to hear that there are other people in my boat who are still waiting. Anyone else in our shoes? In an invitation lull?

^im in the same situation as the OP....🙁

ditto 😀

i submitted june 2 (first day), got all my secondaries in june/july and turned them in as fast as i could, got 2 interview invites in august, 6 in september, and 1 in early october. now i'm taking a breather-- no more interviews until december, phew. (but i would love some more invites; it's been almost a month! 😳)

Nothing for like two months now. Hopefully, its starts picking up soon.

Submitted all secondaries in mid-Sept. First invite early early Oct. Haven't heard anything from any other schools.... 🙁

Yeah, I was verified in early July and submitted all of my secondaries (save Emory and Drexel) by late July/early August. I received 3 invites all within 10 days of each other in late August, then nothing for a month and a half. I received a lone invite a couple weeks ago. Nothing since then.

Glad you started this list, OP. I was worried about the same thing!

Completed early-mid August at all schools (save Drexel). Got 5 interview invites by mid-September. None since then. I have like another 10 schools to hear from.

its been one and a half months! but i got something today!!! YAYYYY

So the people who get interviews December to March, are they just late applicants?

I'm confused... I was complete with everything by August/September, so does that mean if I haven't heard anything, I am most likely rejected since those December to March dates are for late applicants?

^ read post above yours. they always come back to us!!!! but i think u just need that bit of luck...

^ but i still lean on the side that they rarely rarely come back once they are done with u

I posted ths in another thread but this better belongs here I think and hopefully someone can share their experiences
---------
Okay.. Anyone from previous cycle wants to shine light on those who are worried because they are complete from mid-july at most schools and heard nothing for 3 months?

Anyone has experiences where they were complete mid-july and received invite in like January or Feburary and got accepted? Is this common or rare?

EDIT: For me, it's been 3 months, I have heard back from only 7 schools out of 33 schools I applied.

no invites here since late september....I was verified in June but not complete at schools until Sept 2 due to July MCAT. I got two in the same week (great week to say the least) and then have been hearing crickets ever since. I also didn't submit a ton of secondaries until end of september and even october due to money issues I only made sure to "apply early" at my top choices. I guess I can't complain tho as I got my first acceptance a week after my interview (top choice)...but I would love to hear from a couple of schools that I'm still interested in.

amcas sure got over on me...probably withdrew/didn't submit secondaries at 6 or more schools. I guess 2 interviews out of 8 isn't HORRIBLE 🙁

applying early is definitely key...didn't realize the magnitude but it works!👍

I know what you are saying. Since I got my acceptance, I have been so relaxed. I could never interview at another medical school and be perfectly content going to the place that accepted me next year. My only problem is trying to stay motivated towards finishing strong in undergrad...I'm already planning out what I'm going to do this summer!

For the majority of schools June makes little difference. I submitted mine in mid-July, was verified in early-mid August, and completed just about all of my secondaries by early-mid September. By 10/16, I've already had 2 acceptances and ~12 interview invites. As long as you send in your secondary before October, it's not late, IMO.

Sez the man with a 41R...

^his gpa isnt great tho

He also applied to a much greater number and percentage of 'lower' ranked schools than most people, notwithstanding a very impressive interview invite from Vandy in that mix...it was his strategy as a reapplicant as he described it on his MDApps, and it has yielded him a bunch of interviews, but it really begs the question of if he is really interested in some of those schools.

He also has 15 schools he has not heard from, including a couple of his instate schools...not sure I would call his example a ringing endorsement for sending in secondaries in late August to September...

But congrats to him regardless. Different strokes, I guess.

I want to be clear: I am not criticizing his strategy, or the schools he applied to, merely questioning his conclusion that by his example sending in AMCAS in June doesn't confer any advantages for most applicants at most schools.

There is no need to question my interest in those schools. As a reapplicant, I would be especially thrilled to get into any one of them, but I do like some schools better than others. I don't think the way I feel about my list is any different from how most people feel about theirs.

I've studied a lot of people's profiles by reading all the mdapps profiles for each specific school, and I've followed closely some exemplary cases(e.g. ppl who applied to 50+ schools). The truth is that sending in secondaries in early July gives very little advantage over sending them in early September.

Submitted my AMCAS mid-July, and have not heard any news in a month now. Sure hope they'll revisit the older applications soon...

This "truth" is not supported by either anecdotal evidence or logic, much less by the experiences of the people on this thread, especially at rolling schools.

premed, but there are a number of premeds on SDN with 10,000 posts...I have been hanging around here for a while now - it will be 2 years in December.

It certainly is supported by experiences of the people on this board, that's where I got it from. That's the reason I decided to wait a few more weeks to perfect my essays rather than applying as early as possible.

How many of those interviews do you still intend to attend? Just curious...

Definitely 10, the other 4 I'm probably not going to.

so ure a junior? or sophomore?

dingy is doing well tho, no doubt about that, i personally would attend all the interviews that could possibly go my way because i really really want to visit different schools and feel the environment for myself...

I think he's a senior, he just got into UVA a few days ago.

As for the interviews, I'd love to visit different schools/cities as well, but it does cost a good bit of money. I'd spend it if it means bettering my chances of getting accepted, but since I've already been accepted by one of my top choices, I can't really justify it.

oh i see. yea. its rare u see people not putting up their mdapps if they come on sdn so often anyway.

congrats to both of u tho!

I totally agree with this - he is doing very well. I just disagree with his contention that there is no advantage to submitting secondaries in July versus September.

Yes, I know this feeling. It is really hard to justify attending many more interviews after getting an acceptance, assuming that the acceptance is at a school you are very interested in and excited about.

I don't have one. I prefer being more anonymous...

I too was verified early Sept. Finished secondaries mid Sept. Still no interviews. Is this normal??? It's been nearly 5 weeks since!

Poor you. I haven't gotten a single interview invite yet. Be thankful for what you have.

You missed the first big wave of invites that came in August and September; if you are a competitive applicant, chances are you missed out on interviews by being late, but hopefully you will get some response soon.

It has dropped to a trickle for everyone now. And I have no idea if any more "waves" are coming or not...I have a feeling that it will slow for the rest of the cycle, and then it will dry up completely sometime in 1Q2010 as the interview season draws to a close.

same happened for me too, no interview invites for maybe 3 weeks after a string of 11 invites basically ever week since August.... 1 rejection, and about 8 no-responses as well. Right now it's basically gearing up for second round/cycle invites...whatever you wanna call it. I figure I'm probably rejected at most of the places I haven't heard from, but there's still a chance at getting invites at any place you haven't heard back from. However, particularly for rolling schools it's more of an interview for a waitlist spot anytime after mid-December. Any non-rolling school doesn't matter too much if you interview August or February. So good luck and I hope you get more!

Absolultely do not give up.
God!!!!!

I had been so crestfallen, as for the past 2 months i have not received an interview. And waht do u have it. 2 interviews in 2 daysssssssssss. Ubarrr shock!!!! Wish me luck please.
